We have what seems to be a twin of the hall table, which belonged to my in-laws, though in New England. Curious!

We are looking for the same kind of thing and are considering a marble tabletop. My sister has had one for over ten years with three kids (now 6-12) and they really use it without it being a problem; she also said she's never resealed it. The whole kids hit their heads thing on it always seems funny to me. Walking into anything at that height full force hurts. A lot of wood that is reclaimed is not finished and will get rings. Laminate tables don't seem as heavy to me---one of the issues is that kids push against the table and if it's not heavy enough, it moves. We have a laminate table now, and even though it's fairly solid underneath, that's the issue. Looking at doing a room and board parsons or simliar table. Would love to see other ideas.

I just bought that container in the email photo---it's from the container store, meant to store balls in a garage, though Land of nod also sells it for twice the price, of course, in colors---and it works great. The rule here is pretty much you have a container with a designated purpose and you don't go beyond the container.

Also, for NYC folks, you can donate the animals to the fabric recycling at most greenmarkets---it will be repurposed into insulation, etc. http://www.grownyc.org/clothing

@Isabelle Dervaux, if it's something you think has value---meaning you want to frame it once and have it last, I'd recommend General Art Framing on Varrick. Framing is an investment if it's a piece you'd always like to have on your walls. If you like it for now, sometimes simple gallery frames from Pottery Barn or the like do the trick. Here's the contact info for the framers. They are super nice, and affordable for the work they do, but archival quality framing isn't cheap. http://generalartframing.com/

@Trish1980, do you keep your drains closed partially at night? Tub stoppers in? I'm a native New Yorker, currently living in the city, and it wasn't until our last move that the super here told me to do this---if they are waterbugs (the large-a%$ roaches), this is where they will come in, through the pipes. If they're in your bathroom, likely the source. If you close the sink drains partially before bed, and plug up kitchen sink, tub, that will go a long way. I live with two kids and a dog, and it's not the crumbs that let them in, it's the pipes and holes. Since we started doing that it's been a huge difference in frequency. Unfortunately, they are a part of city living.

Sorry---meant to direct the reply to @Jenniannefer and @xarcady re dish detergent. Also, found a good list of what's considered green here: http://www.ewg.org/guides/cleaners/content/top_products and Whole Foods, if you have one, puts a scale underneath the products in the cleaning aisle (and on their own bottles).

I have to say, I tried this recipe and it didn't work that well---dishes weren't getting as clean as I wanted them to, and they were dull. I followed up by buying the Ecover tabs (they were on sale), and the difference makes it worth every penny. They happen to be on super sale at Vitacost right now; I just loaded up.

I highly recommend this vegan site, which is family-focused. I am not a vegan or a vegetarian, but it's full of delicious eats that please a lot of palates! The name says it all...One Happy Table!

I have both the Phil and Teds and the Volo in the pic and we've successfully stored both on this hook at various times. The Phil and Teds is stored without the extra seat, but it holds up fine, though over time it will leave some indents in the handle (which is foam). By far the most essential kid purchase for a small space.

Danielle again. Two things: adults will have their own "grown up" food, as much as I love a good pb&j. And the park doesn't have bbqs, so the other requirement is that it be no-cook solution that we can make at home and transport.

Danielle here. These are great suggestions, thank you! I especially like the pb & j bar but just realized I do have an allergic (toddler) guest. Will have to check with the parent, but perhaps that could be modified to include other non-peanut options? Also didn't think of ice-filled trays to keep the colder things cold. We're having gazpacho for adults, so that method will come in handy. Thanks all.

The MetroTots StrollAway has been a lifesaver in our NYC apartment:

We have a tiny hallway, and try to get our toddler our asap so the stroller is hung up and out the way (and off the floor) as soon as possible.
