There are three of us (me, my husband and my 8yr old son) I have a laundry room off the kitchen. I do one load every day and when it's done drying I pull them out, fold or hang the clothes and place them in a basket to be taken down to the bedrooms. It just doesn't take that long ( 2 minutes or so to set it up to wash and another 5 minutes or so to fold the load) and I do it when I'm doing other work. I don't mind doing laundry.

I have a laundry basket that is 4 bags on a rolling rack and I try to make sure that all the dirty clothes are sorted when they are put into the basket.... my son brings down his clothes (my Mr. not so much) , but I don't make him or my husband do laundry- and I have everything set up (hanging rods, baskets, detergent etc) so it's as simple as I can make it....

this thread is why I no longer read AT. ....It's dryer sheets. Use them, don't use them. I don't care. I use them. I don't honestly care what they have in them. They take away the static that we get here in the winter. I'm sorry some people seem to have issues with allergies....but that doesn't affect me or my life. Sorry.
I am not going to put my clothes on a clothes line. I don't have that kind of time. Even if I did, I don't, if you get my drift. It is simply not worth the hassle. I am happy with a dryer. I don't care about the electricity cost....it's not that much and worth it to me...Maybe not to you- but that's your choice. I have a job and pay my bills so that I can do what I want.
We don't live in the 1800's anymore and I'm more than happy to let technology do it's thing. . A horse and buggy is better than a car for the environment, but I'm not trading my SUV in for a pony anytime soon....
It's a nice idea to have more than one use for any product even if I don't think I'm ever going to use a dryer sheet to dust my baseboards.

I have number 5. I bought it at a thrift store for 3.29 cents 6 or 7 years ago. They are made just up the road a piece from me..... I would NEVER have another tree stand after this one. It is perfect and very easy to use. It's so expensive normally because it is heavy and very well made. I will never need another tree stand in my life.

I'd do nothing and live my life. I feel that anyone who lives underneath anyone else has to know that there will be noise. No one forced them to live on the first floor.

I have number 8 from Ikea. I use them in the bathroom and at the front door for the kids backpacks. They have been installed now for 2 years and work perfectly, look nice (because when upright they don't look like a hook at all) and if I needed more hooks I would buy more of these. The rest of the list....not for me. But those hooks are fantastic.

our kids are not allowed wheeled backpacks- they don't fit in the lockers according to the district. My son is in 3rd grade and his stuff isn't all that heavy-10 lbs or so...but he only weights 50lbs so it's an issue and I know that it's only going to get worse....

I bought a sofa from a hotel sale in the mid 90's- it was a mauve color that reminded me of Miami Vice. It was less than 100 bucks though, and that's all I had at the time- and it was long and sturdy with pretty modern lines...... I had no idea what kind of fabric it was- tightly woven with a low pile. It died in 2010 after a flood. When I put down on the insurance form what kind it was (and sorry I can't remember right now) and how old it was (I guessed at 25 years old) they STILL gave me 800 dollars in value for it. Apparently, hotel sofas are EXPENSIVE and I can tell you- tough.
My Aunt gave me an Ethan Allen sofa last year when she re did her house- it's over 10 years old and it's great. It's sadly a pillow back- but it was free. I am not complaining. I also have a vintage Dunbar sofa from the 1970's with original fabric that is in near perfect condition. Older sofas are the way to go...
And yes, I have always had dogs and cats in the house..... and we eat on the sofa, and sleep and recline on them....

wow. I guess I'm the odd person out as a messy house doesn't affect my mood. At all. Ever. Things that happen to me or my family affect my mood and how I feel
. I love having stuff. My stuff. Stuff I like and stuff I love. When I no longer want it it goes in a box in the basement. If I haven't looked at it or for it in 6 mos. it goes. Same thing for my kids old toys. I don't have any rules about "1 in and 1 out" or anything like that. Why limit myself? If I want something I get it. If I want something gone I let it go. No rules. No pressure.
Oh, I do have one rule. No Legos on the floor. They hurt when you step on them.

I'll add another. Get a license. Know your laws. You don't want the day out with your kids ruined because you did something illegal. In my neck of the woods enforcement officers are out every weekend checking with fishermen- checking limits and licenses.

I have never gotten this debate. When I got married (late in life) there really became no mine/his. Everything is ours. I stopped working when my son was born and never went back so I do the housework. On the weekends when he has time I want him to spend that with US- not doing dishes or laundry. I have my housework mapped out like a job- because in reality it IS my job. Everything is done before he gets home so we can relax and spend time together as a family, and we don't do housework on the weekends or days off.

We share the money and we discuss big purchases. We don't fight. We might disagree but we're freaking adults. I have never thought that marriage should be hard. If it is there's something wrong. Everyday might not be the best day ever...but it's never hard to be married to him.....I married my best friend and the respect and love we have for each other has nothing to do with his job, our money or who does the dishes.

when we bought our 70's ranch it was because of it's view of an unspoiled river. It's been 7 years and we have removed all but 2 of the hollow doors and replaced with solid ones, changed the door hardware, painted every room, door and the trim, we have the lights changed in all but one location and next we're on to the floors. Every one of those changed was worthwhile, and I'd be hard pressed to say which one was worth the most to us, as together they all make up our home. We don't worry a bit about "re sale" we do what we want.

This is fantastic! This house has everthing, Ikea, vintage, color, white, dogs, stuff! I love the fact that the kitchen isn't some overdone granite and stainless thing- I am so over that look and this kitchen looks like it matches the rest of the house. And I am in serious envy of that front porch!

I had always had MCM furniture and was very happy- until I got my huge overstuffed furniture and chair this fall. The chair is huge, and along with it's ottoman could be used as a bed. The entire family on movie nights can lounge on the sofa. My living room isn't big, but it isn't small either. This new furniture fits well in the space, and it's far more comfortable than my old MCM and danish modern furniture- not just for us but for our guests too. I won't be going back.

On my mothers 30th birthday she was alone, eating a tv dinner with me (I was 6) and my 4 yr old brother while my Dad was 200 miles away getting his masters degree at school. She always talked about just how low she felt that day, and so I always kind of feared my own 30th birthday.....
On my 30th birthday ( in Austin Tx ) I awoke to an ICE STORM that shut down the entire city. Just when I was about to start the pity party, a friend of mine called and asked since I was from the North, could I drive in the ice? Could I come to his apt because he had a lot of people stuck there.... So, I loaded up my car with blankets and pillows and ended up in an apartment with ALL of my friends hanging out eating, drinking and watching tv all day, night and the next day. It was THE BEST birthday I ever had. 16 years later- that is the birthday party we all talk about when we get together.

we got a first act acoustical for my then 3 yr old son. it was blue. It was cheap. It's still going strong and my brother (who is a professional guitar player) plays it when he comes up here (after putting new strings on it and tuning it) and it sounds like a real guitar.

we had a pig roast and picnic wedding..... salads, beans, bread. Wedding watermelons instead of cake. Kegs of beer in a HUGE galvanized tin water trough, lots and lots of cheap flavored wine that everyone chugged down. We had lots of music, a firepit later on and hundreds of people who said it was the best party (let alone wedding) they'd ever been too...we finally kicked that last guests out at 5 am....
my take- do what YOU want. Eat what you want. Make your own traditions and have fun. It's not the wedding that makes a marriage.

we don't have to buy school supplies (pencils, paper, glue etc...) here in Michigan for public schools. I heard the state got sued many years ago (someone who thought that all school supplies should be paid for by taxes snf won)

anyway... I always talk to my kids teacher about what she needs (that's extra that the school doesn't supply) and then go buy it so she doesn't have to herself.... last year I got 15 packages of markers, all the colored folders she needed and about 20 boxes of tissues. That and I volunteered in her class two days a week, 6 hours a day all year.
Get what the teacher says you need. There's a reason for it. If it's unused at the end of the year so be it...but I have to believe that very few things are unused.
