I am always inspired by blue, and am still loving it on my bedroom ceiling - what better than to wake up to your favorite color (as seen here in my House Tour from January 2010: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/house-tours/isabella-and-take-on-inwood-house-tour-106498)

The "Hygge" shows and inspires. I can certainly picture a visit with flowing wine, good food and good company in this great space. A masterful mix of personal collections, classic design and functional spaces - this is the best recipe for "Hygge", no?

Where are the dining shelves from? I love them.

Thank you for all the comments and advice! There are days when I think "the backsplash isn't so bad"...then, the next day I am ready to change it. Since the rest of our apartment does not have a country look (and the kitchen is open-plan) I just want the space to have a more cohesive flow. I agree with many of you and think that starting with changing out the backsplash to either glass or ceramic (or stone?) tile will make a huge impact. Also, I decided to upgrade the cabinet hardware. I'll start with these two projects and I hope for the best!

Enjoy the cranberry bread! It is great to pair with either savory winter meals or toast for breakfast.

A few more answers/resources:
-Ceiling color in bedroom is Decathalon by Ralph Lauren (The success of the color is dependent more on the entire space rather than small vs. large bedroom; our ceilings are high, about 8', and palette in the entire room is pretty restricted so the blue doesn't overwhelm. It could certainly work in a smaller room as long as all these other elements are considered:)

-Sofa cover is from Bed/Bath/Beyond and it's a grey-ish blue color. It has a micro-suede feel, but it's faux.

Hi Jennybasel - you know, that sofa cover is a pre-made, purchased at Bed Bath and Beyond:) It's a micro-suede, very soft and easy to dress the couch.

Hey IndianRoad! So nice to hear a voice from our great neighborhood:) I would love to make our foyer into a nook of any kind! Those 2 closet doors would need to be combined into one to create the proper wall space, so it's a project I hope to eventually take on. Until then, I have lots of room in which to sit down and take off my shoes:)

I actually did not spam myself - I had a friend over using my computer and they wanted to comment to support the posting not realizing I was still logged on to AT as DachaDesign. The foyer green/yellow color is Lemon Freeze by Benjamin Moore's Preview collection. I used their eco-friendly Natura paint base.
