First off, I tried putting some adornment on it, but it just seemed...off. I felt like the hook was actually playing a pretty integral part in the whole thing. I already have some planters at the foot of the door so I wasn't looking for something too soft.

As for the door, it is a Crestview model I bought a couple of years ago.

On the DIY tack: IKEA sells small round unframed mirrors, but they only come in one size though.

I used FLOR as a runner also, but by cutting tiles in half I was able to make it fill the space a lot better:

I just finished making this planter box for outside my son's window. It hangs from the eaves rather than be attached to the house. It's made from a 4in. piece of PVC.

It looks like cleaning them might be tough. Is that adhesive all over the steps?

If you can get them cleaned up enough, and you want to 'soften' the concrete, maybe try FLOR tiles cut to fit (just on the contact area like a stair runner). You'd probably have to glue them in place, but the tiles don't have any ragged edges (which looks like a problem with the current ones).

I wouldn't be so apologetic about buying this desk. Who cares if it came from Walmart? If the design is right that's what matters.

A little more on the heavy-duty side, but a Japanese-style pull saw is the greatest demo and remodeling tool around. I never would have thought to buy one but for a tip from another customer at Home Depot who swore by them.

Guess it doesn't count since you wouldn't keep it in a drawer...

The worst mess in my home was made by my dog, who was roughhousing with another dog and proceeded to get a cut on his paw. He ran all about the apartment leaving bloodstains everywhere. Oh yeah, this was while we weren't home. 2 cans of Spot shot and a lot of elbow grease was all it took...

When I built my back deck I worked in a hidden compartment off to the side with the faucet installed below deck level. I used one of those "coiled" hoses that I can just toss into the compartment and cover up.

From back in my futon days, I ran a length of nylon rope across the "fold" and then tied it into the frame. Eventually the mattress developed a crease and I removed it.

I'd also point out that you'll want to step up to a half-inch model no matter what. Having access to half-inch bits gives you a lot more usability.

I did a similar project, but went with the Besta model because the tops are finished. Also, they have a slightly beefier cross-section if you want to leave parts exposed:

Actually, avoid HD's voltage testers, they are complete shite. I returned a brand new one only to have the kid at the returns counter tell me it was one of their most common returns. I got one at OSH that works much better.

This seems like a cool idea but I can't help but think that I could rig that up out of scrap wood for a fraction of the cost. Especially if its in an attic space where Aesthetics aren't an issue.

Plybar definitely. The bigger the better.

Also if you were looking to drop some coin, a good quality 1/2" cordless drill. I spent a couple hundred on a DeWalt a couple years ago and have used it constantly.

I like the idea of putting the Lounge somewhere in between the 2 areas. That way you can just pivot it to face whichever of the 2 is currently in use.

While remodeling our kitchen I discovered a letter from school telling the owners that their son was missing school days. I guess he chose to hide it behind the cabinets rather than let them see it!
