I agree with daloislane! My kids are three years apart - our daughter is five and son is 2 - and they LOVE sharing a room. Our daughter actually begged us to put her little brother in the same room with her. She felt lonely in there without him. I think they sleep much better with the other one two feet away. Go for it!!

A friend of mine just bought black poster board and taped it to the windows. No, it didn't look pretty, but she just opened up all the windows when they wanted daylight. Her son cannot deal with one speck of light!

I suppose you could take that idea and maybe hang the paper so it was easy enough to remove for light? It worked really well for her!

Good luck!

Are the runners installed upside down? I think we installed one of ours upside down and had to redo it. Good luck!

We have two kiddos (aged 4.5 and 16 mos). Our older daughter begged us to share a room with her brother when he was about 11 months old. We did the same thing; put them together and then turned the other room into a play space.

They love sharing a room, but they do wake each other up all the time. Our daughter just grabs her lovies and crawls in our bed when her little brother is having a tough night.

She does love going to sleep knowing her brother is there, already sleeping, to keep her company at night. She always tells people how happy she is not to be lonely at night anymore. It's pretty sweet.

Ooh! Modern Mermaids "Healthy Hand Foamy." My fave germ-be-gone. Smells good, no harsh yucky stuff and I can share it with my kids. http://www.modernmermaids.com/category/Healthy_Hand_Soaps/c62

Also love the TruKid sunscreen, I use it every day. But of course, they are redoing the formula and it won't be available til Spring. Shoot! http://trukid.com/

We have the Maxtrix bed with trundle. It doesn't pop up but it's a nice, sturdy, well-made bed. We don't have all the bells and whistles, just the basic bed (I don't think we need a SLIDE in our kids' room! http://www.maxtrixkids.com/beds.html

Cirone,
I am pretty sure wide mouth versus normal is a preference of the baby. Depends on their latch, etc. My daughter was born early and she could never get a hang of the wide options since her jaw was not really ready for prime time.

I used Baby Buddies toy straps (not plastic) and they come in a pack of two. I always give them at baby showers, too.

They are cool because you can also use them for a Lovie Leash or pacifier holder on. Of course, you can only get one toy on at a time...

We love the Retract-A-Gate as well. I like the way it mostly disappears from sight when you open it. http://www.gearheadmom.com/review/comments/heavens_gate/

I think mine would be from a recent event - my 2.5 year old daughter was literally trying to smash one of her friends into the corner of the sofa. I removed her and we had to talk about it, why we don't smash our pals, etc. When I asked her why she did it, she said, "I really wanted my phone back, Mommy." Living with a two year old is like living within the pages of Lord of the Flies.

We have the Summer Baby Sounds Day/Night handheld monitor. Here's the Summer site - http://www.summerinfant.com/videomonitors.htm

We've had it for over two years and it still works well, even after I drop the handheld part all the time. I can even be out on the front porch and I can still see my kiddo on the screen. It doesn't pick up too much static. It has two channels which seems sufficient. We have it on a different channel from our neighbors across the street because sometimes their daughter's crib will come into view, but not vice versa.
We also have the Sony one for travel and like that one a lot, too.

We've looked in to both Flexa and Maxtrix. Flexa is oco-tex certified, uses non-toxic finishes and pine. The downside is that the pine dings pretty easily (a friend of ours has one for her 3 year old) and they recently pulled out of all mom and pop stores to focus on their own retail storefronts, which makes them harder to find without heinous shipping charges. It was easy for my pal to put it together though and her child loves it.

Maxtrix was started by a designer from Flexa, is US based and not as environmentally friendly. They use sustainably forested birch but their site makes no mention of the finishes, etc. The birch is harder and therefore doesn't ding as much. The designs are a little fancier than Flexa and it's also a bit pricier. The models in our local furniture store look brand new after much test-riding and sliding by kids.
