Anyone know best way to clean a vintage brass lamp?

I've got one that's a large globe shape, perforated all over (similar to 1st picture above). I got it at a flea market and it's far from pristine condition. In addition to being fairly dull, it has a paper (or something) backing on some of the inside that I'd like to remove entirely...

finally, a post I'm ahead of! I got rid of 2 bags of books and a pile of magazines a week or so ago. I have a lot of CDs that should get burned onto computer/cloud storage but they're pretty contained so probably will delay that & get caught up on other stuff I'm way behind on...

I SO need to do this - and not just tonight. I've realized that the TV and my phone (for work as well as BS) are my enemies and why I never get anything done...

If I could resist turning the tv on or picking up the phone my apt would be cleaner & more organized. And I wouldn't be so behind on the cure! I'm always happier listening to music or reading book than with TV on, yet I automatically turn it on when I get home...

I had a massive ant invasion coming through my window that immediately turned around & retreated when I ground pepper over the windowsill

Check it out and if it seems like there's anything to it find another place. I've also been in the bad situation of living next to neighbors I was afraid of, to the point where after the landlord & cops failed to help us we stopped going home. They had lovely habits like breaking in to prove they could & proudly admitting to eavesdropping on us thru the walls. After we called the cops over & they totally failed to help 1 of the guys spent half the night standing in front of our place so that we were too scared to even leave the apt until a friend came & escorted us (point of calling the cops - thanks for nothing!). I was in a semi isolated place without a car which seems worse to me but my brother & sister-in-law had to leave a bklyn apt right before having their baby & lose a bunch of money when their crazy neighbor decided they - especiallly my pregnant SIL - should be the target of his threats & outbursts. They stayed in a small room in my parents house for a few weeks just before/after having baby to avoid being near that with a newborn. Even the perfect apartment is not worth the risk of something happening or having to leave after signing lease and finding out exactly the limits of someone else's issues...

Fresh ground pepper worked amazingly for me. I had ants invading through my window and they turned around & ran as soon as I ground a good deal of pepper all over the window sill.

In terms of the stones, I have to say it's an idea that may be best for magazine pictures or homes with a multiple person cleaning staff! My shower used to be one of those plastic inserts within the tiled shower stall (brilliant plumber installed it without a lead pan underneath so had to put one of those horrible inserts into it to make it (semi) leak proof. The insert was smaller than the stall itself and in the gap which was prob about 3 inches deep there were small rocks. Looked great, very 'zen spa' but it was impossible to keep clean. I had to frequently do a sort of tumble wash with the rocks in my sink and there was constantly hair and dust caught in them. Maybe it would be easier with a flat space than a hole that shouldn't have existed in the 1st place as it might not collect as much, but those rocks were a giant pain for me!

amphetamine, I completely disagree. Yes, we absolutely need to work on making green energy more efficient, reliable, available, affordable, etc but I definitely don't think it's too much too ask that we all be aware of what resources we use and that we become more responsible in our use. The lifestyle of many if not most Americans is extremely wasteful. There's no reason to be wasteful, and I see no benefit in it either. A little awareness among a lot of people could go a long way - not all the way, but I don't believe we're going to find a magic answer anyway so conservation should remain/become a part of our lifestyle even once green energy is better developed & utilized.

As everyone else says here, this is total crap. What's truly ridiculous is that had the store instead posted a (well written) apology/explanation rather than harassing the poster/AT, they'd have good press here rather than bad. Sure, it depends on what the problem was in the 1st place as maybe there's no reasonable explanation but a lot of credit is given to someone who cops to their error. So most likely this store will soon be out of business of their own accord...

I've been using these light bulbs forever and have never had the 'flickering' problem people always complain about.

Also, as far as dimmable pretty inefficient. I believe that at least 1 way a dimmer works is that it switches the light on & off incredibly quickly so as to create the effect of having less light. check out http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/04/dimmer_switches.php

summer after freshman year of college friends & I moved into a place on cape cod only to find that in addition to the ping pong (used exclusively for beer pong) table the landlord had promised us, she had also left behind the basement tenant! A sometimes sweet, sometimes creepy (black satin sheets/black walls/black light) that he made SURE to point out & discuss in detail when giving me the tour of his apt) 45ish Rasta named Ollie... now that was an interesting summer...

looks like a 3 year old made it out of clay (and not in a 'oh my god when you grow up you'll be a fantastic designer' way - in a 'I love it b/c my 3 yr old made it' way) and it would prob be more comfortable if that was the case. polystyrene balls? i know apt therapy puts design WAY before sustainability but come on! That's absurd.

the frame on its own, however, is kind of cool looking (and might be equally comfortable)
