I use chili powder (the asian kind) nearly everyday in my cooking. You could grind your own as phoxx or jonathan have suggested, but i dont know if its really worth the effort.

A wide variety of chili powders are readily available in indian, thai or chinese markets...allowing you to choose your level of coarseness. They fresh for months when stored in an airtight container.

If you dont know what level of coarseness you would like, I'd suggest going for the finely ground chili powders. They will allow you to add heat evenly throughout your dish. The coarser the grind, the more likely you are to chomp into chili goodness.

i was totally thinking that too hellkat. i imagine it would get boiling inside a metal storage container!!

yea, i'd thought of the velcro, but it just seemed like it would be unsightly when the cushions were being used on the floor. but i think maybe using fabric (the the tweed above) that has some traction might help. i think the platform itself prolly also needs to have a lip so as to reduce slippage.

woodlearner, that is so great to learn! i was imagining trees being chopped down just so we could have a stylish salad bowl... couldnt be happier to know that i was wrong.

its great to know what all those ingredients do and all, but none of the information takes me any farther toward figuring out what their environmental impact would be. that i thought was the point of the post in the first place...
