I am also a huge fan of Tony's. I just buy individual pieces here and there but everything is top notch quality and Tony has really gone out of his way to deliver the pieces to me. I love his stuff!

I am just learning to cook, and my teacher is my very patient boyfriend. He is moving in at the end of the month and this would be a wonderful way to welcome him to my apartment!

I would use the roaster to make my favorite meal of the moment, roast chicken with winter veggies.

My culinary expert would say the Saucier Pan is his favorite, and he would use it to reduce the gravy from the chicken and add couscous for a delicious side dish.

I would love this for my new apartment. It cost so much to buy the place, move, and buy the paint, etc.... that I cannot afford to buy bedding now. I am using full sized bedding on a queen sized bed.

ps - I said that you should "push everything" closer to the rug. I only meant the chairs, the couch and the loveseat if it fits. Don't more the entertainment unit.

I disagree with hejiranyc, I think you have some nice stuff. It is a lovely room.

I am not sure how it would look, but I would push everything closer to the rug. That may mean that you have to move some furniture out of the "living room area." When the time comes, buy a bigger rug, it will make a huge difference.

I decided on my room's layout with a free online software from BHG and that was really helpful. This is how I found it. There are other, better software programs, but this one worked for me and I especially liked the price!

Sorry Maxwell! I am not reading carefully today.

Though Recycling is very important, the most important thing is to reduce the waste you create.

I cut old t-shirts into different sized strips and use them instead of paper towels. I also use old towels and washcloths for the same purpose. It saves money as well!

It is so ironic that there are 365 pieces of paper (that you will throw away) to help you be more "ecofriendly!"

I am also on a tight budget and have done very well at warehouse sales. ABC Carpet and Home has a great semi-annual warehouse sale and I got a great very large couch for $500. Find a furniture store you like and sign up for their email list.

Good luck!

Apartment Therapy - Good Questions: Where Can I Find This Fabric?
10/10/07 06:36 AM

Jenny in DC -

I had the same window problem.

I bought fabric from a fabric store and had a tailor sew it into panels that were just a little larger than my windows. Then I attached the fabric to metal clips that hang from a metal rod that I bought in a hospital supply store (believe it or not, I modeled it after how hospitals hang the curtains to separate the space in large rooms). I pull the curtains open by hand (no string). I usually do not like short curtains, but these look really cool and it was very cheap! Just an idea.

In NYC fabric stores are everywhere, I am not sure where to find one in DC. But I am sure they are out there.

My apartment is currently being renovated and I am living with my boyfriend while this is happening. I am doing a full scale renovation and it is going a lot more quickly because the contractor does not have to clean up at the end of every day. I go by three times a week and talk to him on the phone every morning. It is going very well, and I am not stressed at all!

Apartment Therapy - Good Questions: How Can I Live In My Apt. While I Remodel?
10/5/07 08:19 AM

I purchased a table, 2 chairs and two benches in January at From the Source. I had a long talk with a salesman about that very problem and he assured me that the manner in which the furniture is put together allows for small expansion and compression of the wood. The table and benches still look perfect. However, one chair is cracking a bit where two of the pieces of wood meet...
