I was the youngest in my class. All in all, I came out of it ok. I was always the best reader, and the tallest, despite being almost six months younger than the next youngest. That being said, my relationship building skills werent at great as my older peers, and it took me a long time to catch up in that respect, which was miserable. Now, as an elementary educator, I have spent a lot of time in primary grade classrooms. I have seen 4 year olds who are totally ready for school, and 5 1/2 year olds who should really be held back another year. Parents should not only consider their childs readiness in terms of academics and physical aspects, they should also take a good look at the maturity of their child, because bright kids are not always emotionally ready. Its hard because its pretty obvious that a 5yo who is still wearing 3T clothing and needing naps is simply too small for kindergarten, but when your 4 1/2 yo is an inch taller than everyone else, and already reading, its a little bit harder to be truley objective.

Back to School Considerations: Redshirting

i think there is some confusion here. I have several pairs of jeans that i wear everyday, use for going out, wear on the weekends, ect.. those jeans i wear two or three times, then wash inside out to clean them. I usually line dry so they dont get too short. Washing returns their normal shape, and doing so inside out maintains the color longer.
BUT, i have a pair of dark denim trousers that I wear for work. They are almost black, and I love the color. When I washed them the first time they lost tons of dye and faded. Big bummer, as they were expensive. So I researched the best way to clean them. Dry cleaning is expensive and gross smelling. This method kills the bacteria that you leave when you sweat, which is what makes your jeans smell!
Obviously this isnt for your everyday jeans that you get dirt and stains on, this is for your super nice dress denim that you paid major money for!

AT, i love you to pieces but this is getting silly. please please show me a real dorm or realisting apartment! while we all wish to live in charming and individualistic flats in the city, some of us have to settle for cookie cutter apartments in giant complexes or 12x12 dorm rooms on campus. i want to see pictures of real dorm rooms!

these rooms are adorable, chic, sophisticated, and totally unrealistic. these arent really dorm rooms, at least not standard dorm rooms. I would love to see a post about sharing and decorating a 14 x 14 room on a student's budget. while i can maybe draw inspiration from this, its not very helpful otherwise.

-when buying new shoes you consider how they will look on display, since they dont fit in your closet
-your coffee table is your dining room table
-you really do store sweaters in the oven
-you actually have a murphy bed

when i was young i hated that my mom combined the like cereals when the boxes were near empty (alphabits are not the same as cheerios!) but i love this idea, so that I can see what I do and dont need. this is great for small space dwellers

so cute and cozy, but i agree with posters who think this space would better suit an overstuffed arm chair and ottoman.

I like the laptop idea, because I dont have dvr and I watch shows on my laptop a lot. this would be a lot more comfortable than staring down at your laptop on a coffee table!

Love this. The desk area (home office?) pictured above could also benefit from drapes or curtains being hung, so that it can be hidden when not in use. Its so nice to close the door on a home office or work space, without having it stare at you :) My office does have toys, btw.
