I so thoroughly did not want to sell cookies that as a child I told my dad I would disown him if he made me become a girl scout. Which makes me wonder: are you actually required to sell cookies?

I'm with Jplee: "It seems like every other post is riddled with this sort of grammatical torture...Comments are regularly left about the problem. Why won't AT create one regular style sheet?"

I wonder the same thing every time I read AT. Glad to see you've taken the comments to heart, though, Rebecca. Thanks!

Sorry, can't make the stretch to consider A Year of Mornings as "home-keeping" in my book. The other suggestions are all great, though.

Most of the chairs in the LA Times article are more than $600! Aren't there any comfortable, stylish, and affordable chairs out there (besides the one you can't wear shorts to sit in)? Any suggestions, anyone?

Hi Andy,

Love the photos. Thanks for some great ideas.

How many hours a week do you spend at the auction house?

They're lovely, but are they reliable? I'm pretty sure I've read about the Smeg needing repairs and not sealing especially well, unfortunately.
Keep up with the letters everyone, and maybe someday we'll have a gorgeous, affordable, and good-quality fridge...

I have a box of gifts I have been stockpiling from my time living and traveling abroad and from things I see out shopping that I know could be wonderful gifts sometime in the future. You never know what occasions might come up, and it's really handy to have a hostess gift or birthday present ready to go whenever you need it.
My mom actually has the closet of stockpiled gifts. I used to mock the closet, but then I lived in Japan where there are tons more obligatory gift-giving occasions and realized that it's extremely practical to have gifts on hand. However, I don't know any people in Japan who have gift closets. And forget the inventory list. What a hassle.

We use radiant-heat flooring, which is more energy efficient than forced air. Am also trying to train my husband to turn off the water when he does dishes and to take shorter showers (more difficult than I had imagined). We take public transport/bike to work daily and line-dry all our clothing.
I also bring various reusable bags when I go shopping and am trying to phase out the harsh chemical cleaners we have accumulated around the house.
Working at changing one habit at a time.

These are really popular in Japan. Absolutely necessary in a windowless, concrete room.
Highly recommended!
