Alarm bells should be sounded as rabies is a definite worry. The difference between your experience and others may have been that you were awake and aware of your contact with the bat. In dulcibellas case, the bats were in the home when she (and her family) were sleeping. I will echo her and direct you to the CDC website where two of the fatalities listed were children who had been sleeping when bitten. Many times you will not know that you have been bitten and/or contracted the disease until symptoms start. Better safe then sorry, especially if you have young children in the home.
I guarantee that the CDC has more information then you or even your wildlife control person about the threat of rabies. Does that mean you need to wet yourself when you encounter a bat? No. But under certain circumstances the shots may be necessary.

If you paint use Krylon or similar paint designed to adhere to vinyl. When we painted ours, we scuffed up the surface a bit, but after painting it still looked smooth.

I was thinking that a padded hat stand would work, mounted on the wall. I have seen them before in costume shops used to display wigs. If you don't feel like making one, here is one that I found that I think would be interesting with or without padding. (Although I think the padded would help protect the mask from slipping.)

It does feel as if the dining table is lurking behind the divider.
Surprise! I am eating!
I would want to turn the table so it came out from behind the divider a bit, but it looks as if the bench seat is built in?
Could the bench seat be turned so it backed to the entry and became a part of a new divider? It would facilitate turning your overhead fixture, but that shouldn't be too difficult. If not I am also in support of the white divider...only shorter.

I agree with Hyzen with going vintage. Not sure about your market, but there are a lot of antique stores around here and on the Westside that have fantastic quality pieces for much less than new. You may be able to find a suite of 60's era as more and more of that time period is coming up in estate sales. Or mix and match with wood type.
My recommendation is examine the interior of the drawers to make sure the bottom won't pop out to easily. This is our number one issue with four kids and many many dressers. Many, many, many dressers...

Go to this reverse image site and there are quite a few hits for this picture. Most of them seem to be book covers and see if you can order a print or at the least get a good electronic version.
