I had been baking my own birthday cake (Cancer sign here, folks.) but quit doing so in the past year or two after a... rather distasteful birthday experience. I'd put a lot of hard work into making this cake (prep, literally, took 2 weeks. Homemade creme fraiche, I'd spent the entire month beforehand looking at recipes, the whole shebang.), and when it was time for cutting, I'd told friends I was just going to make a quick restroom stop and then I'd be ready. When I came out (Maybe a minute later, if that.), I found all of my friends eating my creation; They'd cut it and started without me... so I figured why bother... It STILL irks me, I'm sorry.

The Ames Superdog from the Smiles & Gyros cart! "Special sauces" (garlic-cilantro and a pineapple-y sauce), potato chips, bacon, and a slice of melted cheese sealing it all in. OH MAN.

And, I'm not gonna lie, I'm a big fan of the corndog.

@lellow I never said otherwise. I said I know this to be bannock. Bannock may be fried, baked, or roasted. I am also Native and Canadian and your "we" term is not quite appropriate, seeing as such. I was simply enlightening in a general sense. *shrug* Take of it what you may.

@lellow actually, English bannock is baked, much like a scone, however the bannock known in North America (or at least in my Canadian home) is fried.

This has always been "bannock" to me. It's so weird to hear it called fry bread. That's just me, though!

I didn't realize that the house my husband and I loved, while house hunting nearly a year ago, didn't have house numbers, or a mailbox, until after we put in an offer on it. (It didn't matter, we ended up getting the house and buying numbers and a mailbox anyhow.)

It took me several weeks of convincing my husband that this was the best, most visible, spot for the numbers; And he only agreed after he "came up" with the idea himself after me holding numbers in the various places he initially wanted them so he could see what they'd look like... (ahem...) http://bit.ly/dxhNbu

I agree with mattiemay on the smell! You can also use microfiber cloths! (I picked up a 16 pack of "heavy duty" microfiber washcloths at Lowe's for $8. They absorb a TON and get thrown right into the wash with vinegar and baking soda.)

I also have to agree with all the other comments about preemptive potty breaks, too. Puppies need to pee after waking, eating, and playing. (All of which they do a lot of.)

My husband and I adopted a little Cairn earlier this year, and unbeknownst to us, or the rescue facility, she was nearly a month pregnant at that time. We found ourselves with two more surprise puppies, so we're dealing with the same issues. I can't recommend Anti-Icky Poo and Urine-Off enough! I prefer the former to the latter, but the Urine-Off definitely works for the tougher messes I deal with (Carpets, soaked into our wood trims, etc.) I've also tried Petastic (which is, supposed to be, the original Nature's Miracle formula (that they don't make anymore, as far as I know.)) without much success.

If you're inside with the pups, but can't watch them, CRATE THEM! Or block them in an area where it's not a big deal if they mess. Puppies, physically, don't have (nearly) full control of their bladder until they're roughly 12 weeks old. The crate training has helped, immensely! Ours can go 4-5 hours in a crate at night before they need to be let out to potty and drink, at 9 weeks.

Good luck!

Oh, I'd like to add, however, that the burners on dual-fuel ranges are normally (not always) the "closed" stacked burners (with the little caps on top) and aren't quite as good as a regular old "open" gas burner.

I second Rolen the Great's comment. My husband and I own a dual-fuel range, gas cooktop with an electric/convection oven. Definitely needs to be removed as a con against freestanding appliances!

If I were in the position to choose, I would definitely have gone with built-in's though. I like the option of having a wall oven slightly staggered, so I can still tend to something on a burner and have my husband grab something out of the oven.

Our granite has a waterfall edge. It's a huge annoyance when baking, if you spill any flour/sugar/baking soda/etc. It's impossible to just sweep it off the counter, you need to go over it three times, and the cloth needs to be damp. Very, very, frustrating sometimes.

It's very pretty to look at, though. And the undermount sink has an eased edge around it, so it makes up for it a little in that respect.

Actually, our back porch light goes on when I take out the dog, too. She's scared of the stairs otherwise.

I live in a small(er) college town; Our porch lights only get turned on if we're going out or expecting company or after-dark deliveries. If that's a signal for somebody to break in, so be it. I figure if they take the risk of doing so (we live along a busy street), they need whatever they take far more than I do.

Something acidic (lemon, orange, vinegar, etc.) and a lot of elbow grease seem to do the trick for me. I end up with a sticky greasy residue on baking sheets and ceramic bakers all the time, and this works wonders for me.

@roseslaw Actually, clicking through the link, the article specifically says, "... absolute black granite counters were our splurge..." so it is indeed granite. The granite look laminates can get close to the granite patterns, but they never get the same shine.

@Rpoole11 I get the same answer when trying to get my grandma's recipe for the noodles she makes for chicken/turkey noodle soup. It's because she doesn't know what the measurements are, and it's all feel based for her; If it's too wet, she'll add more flour. Too dry, add more water.

The best thing to get the texture down is to make them with her so you can get a feel for the texture yourself.

My husband and I bought a new house last summer that didn't have any appliances, so we had the awesome pleasure of buying the ones we really wanted.

We have a french door fridge close to the Samsung RFG297AARS, but we have the RFG299AARS, which has a small LCD display on it, that my husband loaded with LOLCATS pictures (thanks to the built-in card reader). I do love that it has such a large capacity without really bulking up the outside dimensions, and I'm absolutely in love with the deli drawer. (It's my favorite thing about the entire fridge.)

I'm also with ladymelody here, my cairn will stare at the fridge for nearly an hour as it makes and drops ice.
