we had a similar dilemma in our kitchen. we ripped up the linoleum and found old wood floors with paint specks and large areas that had been painted in the past. we did a light sanding and then polyurethaned ourselves with a clear coat. it is different than the rest of the house but we love the imperfections of it.

We got a landline when we got our security system installed and I kind of love it. Makes our house feel more like a home.

Hey all - thanks for the great comments!
@apcolucci - the candelabra was a gift from my aunt - i believe she got it from marshalls!
@pi - be sure to check out the clearance rugs at material culture. we found ours folded up at the bottom of the pile on super sale. quite the steal
@rosenatti - the floor lamp in the corner was actually a trash find! it is a sun lamp from the 30s. still can't believe someone was throwing it out. one of our best trash pieces yet.
@mfarling - the green chairs are the IKEA Urban ones like drcourt777 said
@shannont - the kitchen cabinets are custom made using ebony (style number 9012) formica laminate as the outer surface (http://www.formica.com/ProductLine_Finishes.aspx?prl=PRL_LAMINATE&fin=FIN_NT&fns=) and IKEA door handles. The counterrops are meganite - it is a solid surface that is pretty much the same as corian, but cheaper. We are extremely happy with both our cabinets and countertops! Good luck with your reno!!

@vgaria103: Thanks! Unfortunately, we have no info on the living room paint color...it was actually a mess up color. We picked another color and then changed our minds mid mix up, so the man at the paint store attempted to match the new color by adding some black. And that's what turned out. It is a green-y shade and we are actually quite happy with it too.

@ pochron - the pendant light in the bedroom is from IKEA. We got it about a year and a half ago - not sure if they still sell that style.

@mime -
the sofa is the spencer sofa from gus modern - http://www.gusdesigngroup.com/products1/sofas/spencer-sofa/spencer-sofa.shtml#spencer-sofa

and the lamp is a replica of the Arco floor lamp. We got it at a local boutique called Open House here in Philly - I'm not sure who makes ours.

thanks for the vote!

@ blixx: the wood floors are original to the house. They are yellow pine wood planks. The kitchen was the only room that had not been stained because it was covered with linoleum when we moved in. We ripped up the linoleum and did a light sand and clearcoat polyurethane. We, too, love them - they were definitely a selling point for us! Good luck with your condo!

@kmccullin: the kitchen stools are from a high school art room where my dad works, and the bar/island is a custom built piece made from meganite.
@kday: are you referring to the outdoor seating area? if so, it is the arholma outdoor furniture series from ikea.
@ stephaniedg: the pregnant lady painting is an original by my husband ode to gustav klimt.
thanks!

"According to the 2008 American Community Survey, Philadelphia has the most bike commuters per capita among the nation's ten largest cities."

What I see as a four year resident of Philly (transplanted from Denver via Boston) is a thriving city, and a city that is positioned to become on of the 'greenest' in the US. It is a city with a deep sense of community and culture, but is (no longer?) not afraid of pushing hard to better itself.

The "Colonial kitsch" comment is way off the mark.
