I've seen this all over design blogs for, like, ever, and now it was on the back page of this month's "O" magazine so it will be even more prevalent.

Yes, "for like ever" joke intended. Yes, you should still buy it if you love it. And yes, I deserve flak for looking through "O" while visiting my mother this weekend.

I think it's interesting!

And you guys are complaining about "uninspired" design? It's low-income housing, which there isn't enough of in SF, and it's not Government Issue Grey. That's inspired enough for me.

Interesting for sure. But also would eventually get yellowed, smudged (don't lean against that wall!) and flakey.

NOT hot. Now, the floating staircase that is wider and has a functional handrail in "The Island"? Now that is hot. Although Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansen sitting on them probably helped too....

I'll just say that things go in my sink, and down the drain of my sink, that I wouldn't want in my bathtub. I'll leave it at that.

When I read that $5,245 is "a significant portion of the down payment on a home" I had to check my browser and make sure I hadn't accidentally clicked over to "AT: Boise". Seriously? Five grand down payment? In the SF area?
That said, I agree with the general gist of the statement that 5k is too much to spend on any chair, especially that chair.

I love this site. Don't take my sibling-like ribbing too hard ;).

Aubrey, do you know what the price range is for the scrapile benches?

Achoo! My eyes water at the thought of that after two weeks in the springtime.

That still comes nowhere close to holding 350 jewelcases though...

It's pretty! Does "pretty" count as a style? ;)

I can't decide whether these are cool for a holiday party but not any other time, or whether they're not cool for any time at all.
But thanks for the post! Sometimes seeing things I don't like reinforces that I actually like the other stuff :).

JuliaL : You can buy larger ones from 20x200 but they get increasingly more expensive. Granted, the poster-size is out of most of our budgets.

(small is 200-count edition for $20, medium is 20-count edition for $200, large is 2-count edition for $2000. The originals are usually available too for a "email us and we'll tell you" price)

I got the "Say Goodbye to Love Failures and Loneliness" for my girlfriend for Christmas when it debuted on 20x200...

Good thing she doesn't read this blog :)

Congrats on putting "spell" in quotes....

If you break it into 8-bit chunks, then translate those into the ASCII standard for character representation, you will get 'w' 'e' 'l' 'c' 'o' 'm' 'e'.

However, without splitting it into 8-bit chunks, it just represents a very very very very very large binary number (larger than 2^55) Also, you need to know that it's in ASCII (or an ASCII-compatible standard like UTF-8 Unicode) or else it won't spell that character sequence at all.

OK, my CS-nerd statement is done.

And Lisa, if you are buying TWO of them, you posted a nerd joke even faster than I could.

The SF one was on my christmas list, and they had stock a couple days ago, but a couple blogs mentioned it and now it's gone before my "source" (aka girlfriend) could buy it online :(.

Man, dim sum, why did you have to steal my idea?

Although I'll go for the version of "Baby it's cold outside" from "Elf". Or the Steve Tyrell version.

Mmm I love Pom Tea :). Although it's expensive so it's on my expendables-income-list with its buddies Caribbean Passion at Jamba Juice and Boylan's Diet Cane Cola.

Fair enough. Amended statement:

"This handwriting is not my favorite. While I think the shade will get recognition, the object itself is not attractive or very desirable to me."
