I've seen this all over design blogs for, like, ever, and now it was on the back page of this month's "O" magazine so it will be even more prevalent. Yes, "for like ever" joke intended. I think it's interesting! And you guys are complaining about "uninspired" design? It's low-income housing, which there isn't enough of in SF, and it's not Government Issue Grey. NOT hot. Now, the floating staircase that is wider and has a functional handrail in "The Island"? Now that is hot. Although Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansen sitting on them probably helped too.... When I read that $5,245 is "a significant portion of the down payment on a home" I had to check my browser and make sure I hadn't accidentally clicked over to "AT: Boise". Seriously? Five grand down payment? In the SF area? That said, I agree with the general gist of the statement that 5k is too much to spend on any chair, especially that chair. I love this site. JuliaL : You can buy larger ones from 20x200 but they get increasingly more expensive. Granted, the poster-size is out of most of our budgets. (small is 200-count edition for $20, medium is 20-count edition for $200, large is 2-count edition for $2000. Congrats on putting "spell" in quotes.... If you break it into 8-bit chunks, then translate those into the ASCII standard for character representation, you will get 'w' 'e' 'l' 'c' 'o' 'm' 'e'. However, without splitting it into 8-bit chunks, it just represents a very very very very very large binary number (larger than 2^55) Also, you need to know that it's in ASCII (or an ASCII-compatible standard like UTF-8 Unicode) or else it won't spell that character sequence at all. OK, my CS-nerd statement is done. And Lisa, if you are buying TWO of them, you posted a nerd joke even faster than I could.
