i'm number 4 or 5 or 6 for the vote of just painting it the same color as the rest of the wall on that panel. by sheer nature of the fact that it's wood, as well as sticking out from the rest of the wall, that will add dimension and texture on its own. no need to highlight it by painting it any different shades or finishes. also, it's just a lot easier on yourself if you ever have to do touchups. i had a huge old a/c in my living room which i painted the same color as the walls and it blends in very nicely and is now very unobtrusive... Is that a good spot for a piece of art? Perhaps you could get a huge canvas that would fit over that hole, and paint some cool simple design on it. Good Questions: How Can I Cover Up This Nook? |

I like #2, the japanese print. it's muted and elegant, and will also probably be lasting. Tips: 14 |

is there anyone out there that can make a nice recessed soap holder (for inside the shower) that's not one of those ugly ceramic models??? I only see the wire ones (nice, but not optimal, as the soap ends up falling through the wires when it gets thin) and maybe one that cost over $150 (!!!). Open Thread 354 |

Hi, I'm trying to weigh between 3 options for flooring. I'm purchasing an apartment that has wood tiles on the floors. It's a building that went up in the early 80s and has the original flooring that is that pretty unattractive wood tile (not even parquet!). The space in question is about 500 sq ft, between the living room and the bedroom. I am trying to weigh between 1) just installing all new hardwood floors, 2) sanding, re-staining and re-sealing the current floor (I saw a neighbor's place that did it, and the result was actually decent) and 3) just putting down wall to wall carpeting.
