This place is awesome. Not sure if you rent or own, but you should have this listed with some location companies for sure. People are always on the lookout for unique spaces for shoots, and this place is truly one of a kind. Sick.

Thanks, Adam! I think your place is amazing. That couch is so sick.

noreen: Trust me, you don't want to order from the people that I did. They would go days and days without even calling me back, when we were weeks past the quoted lead-time. Then again, I'm pretty sure they thought I was the crazy one.

If I could change one thing, I wish we could have had more photos, and higher res photos! I liked when there were videos too! I felt like a lot of the details get lost, and maybe if people could see those more clearly they wouldn't feel that everything looked so similar. I totally appreciate all the support that my entry received, and I understand that nothing is going to be everyone's cup of tea. I wish I had Julia's restraint, Keira's whimsy, and Adam's fearlessness. Thank you all.

Clouddreams: - Once you pull down the front, there's a rollbar leg that flips down. Some people have a difficult time, as the top of the frame is kind of high up, but I'm fairly tall so it works out just fine.

I have a refrigerator, it's just in a very weird place ha. If you look at the floor plan, it's at the far end where you walk in the apartment. Luckily, the way the door opens, you don't even see it when you walk in. It's kind of inconvenient, but it was that or having it where the desk was, and I just didn't want it to be something you saw right away. I wish I owned the place, because I would rework that kitchen in a heart beat. I know just how I would do it too! But such is the renters dilemma...

I'm so glad and flattered that people like the space. Thanks everyone for all the compliments.

modernluv: The brass chest was found at an antique mall in Kansas. Mission Mall Antiques I believe was the name. I got it for a steal - I think I paid around $100? The real cost was shipping it to NYC.

18percentgrey: It's actually a vintage piece. It's solid walnut, and super sturdy. While this piece is clearly spoken for - I can tell you that I found it on mission mod's blog. They were great, and they delivered it to my door for a reasonable fee. I still check their stuff out, even though I don't really need any more large pieces. There were the blogs that I used to regularly check though:

I have a murphy bed that I sleep on every night, and I love it. You can see it in my small cool entry:

What's great about murphy beds is that they can accommodate pretty much any mattress. So really, it feels just like sleeping on any other platform bed. In fact, if I ever manage to get a 1 bedroom apartment, I'll still probably keep the murphy bed and use the bedroom also as a work space.

Thanks! It was custom, but worth the time in this tiny place. You'd be amazed how many people have come in and asked which door goes to the bedroom.

Thanks guys!

(V) (;,,;) (V): more than anything, the desk is great because it's my only food prep space. The kitchen counter is so tiny, and mostly occupied by a bamboo dish rack 90% of the time. The desk is great for laying out mixing bowls, chopping veg, etc.

dandywarhol: Thanks for your vote! The print is by an artist named Raphael Mazzucco. I've worked with/for him for several years now. That picture was from a book that I had the privilege of art directing. That picture was taken in Vietnam.

The leg is a piece that folds in over the mattress. It's like a roll bar, if that makes sense? The fun part was sourcing the wood - that I will plug. It was this place called Elmwood reclaimed lumber, based in Missouri I think? Great people, and cool products if you need pretty lumber.

I'm so glad people like it! I wish you could vote more than once too ;-)

As for the murphy bed - it was honestly a hellacious experience. The murphy bed company fought me every step of the way. The first one they delivered was way different than the sketches we agreed on, and the second corrected version shattered into a million pieces all over my floor. Honestly, I was terrified to sleep in it for a month. I won't even mention who it was, because they were horrible to deal with and I'd hate to see them profit any further from my design (they're now selling knockoffs using cheap laminate).

The couch was cobble hill I think? One of the way more affordable lines at ABC. Was still kind of a splurge, but it's really the only thing I sit on all that much. The desk in the kitchen was from CB2, and then I finished it in a darker stain myself.

Oh, and my dad built the coffee table! It's completely solid. We ordered all types of wood samples. The work is really stunning, most of the grain wraps all around the piece. A labor of love.

Thanks for all the kind words!

Some of the artworks are mine (the boy above the dresser, the beach piece on the sideboard), some are by an artist I work for (the piece above the desk, the print of the older woman in Vietnam), and then others are just random (a picture of my grandparents at a costume party in the 60's, a sketch by a local artist in Kansas, a page from an old insect study book).

You can see a smidge of the kitchen in the shot with the bed down ha. Honestly, with just 5 pictures - the bathroom and kitchen are the least remarkable aspects of the space. The bathroom is so small that it's hard to get much in frame, and the kitchen is just an oven and sink.

I like it. The brick wasn't special, and without anything breaking it up it read more government housing than charming historic. This is happier, and looks more like a front door that I'd like to knock on.

The safest bet is probably just to remove it entirely, or at least remove the shelf and cover with art or a mirror

This seems more illogical than charming (I have a very similarly built in shallow bookcase and I just covered it eventually. Nothing would stay put, and it always just looked somewhat unnatural)
