I love this discussion - some of those instagram "homesteader" accounts are just silly. I grew up in rural Virginia, and for all the awesome things of living in the country, there are equal weird/bad things. Like all the times our stupid Jersey bull jumped the fence and ran down to the neighbors to try to impregnate something; the chickens that got eaten by foxes despite our best penning efforts; random drunk redneck hunters showing up on your property; the time our cat got bitten by a snake and had to have her tail docked; and speaking of snakes - the snakes that fell from the rafters of the barns onto us, or were found in a sealed grain bin, or in a nest of bird eggs or in the chicken coop, greenhouse, garden or pretty much everywhere…

I don't even understand why/how it looked like that in the first place? Did he buy it furnished or something? So crazy!

I'm with the author! I think they are messy and unnecessary. I like a duvet on my comforter and I clean that like I do sheets. So much easier! HOWEVER, being in New Orleans, there are certainly times of the year I have to ditch all the big blankets and sleep ONLY with a top sheet. :-)

how come everyone's so angry? this is a great starter list, and i have a funny feeling "deep south," or something of the like, is next on the list.
i just wanted to expand on the wonderful Virginia places already mentioned: Pope Leighey http://popeleighey1940.org/ Frank Lloyd Wright home in Alexandria; and everyone should fly through Saarinen's Dulles Airport and sit on some Eames tadem seating.
