OK, so we (ie my husband) finally assembled 2 of the tall dressers (3 drawers on the bottom, doors on top, a mix of birch and white) and it was truly a project. Because it's modular, there were literally about 12 different boxes/packages in our living room. But he did say that they are much more impressive items than the usual IKEA he's put together. Very roomy and takes up only a corner of the room.

We were just talking about needing a wheelbarrow this morning!

I rally like the kitchen/dining space. Did you paint the ceiling fan yourself?

BambiJo - I have an Alice too, and I was surprised to see it so high up the list! My other girl is Madeline, on the list but way further down.

I use the Trader Joe's natural stuff ("Cleanliness is next to godliness" or something) for everything - dishwasher, laundry, and spray. It does the job for me. Otherwise I use vinegar and water.

We just bought a house in the bay area last year, which I didn't think we would ever be able to do ...but only with the price of housing bottoming out, good credit, an FHA loan, a loan from my mom, and 2 incomes. Growing up in SF, we always rented, so it's a weird feeling to OWN something. I totally get the feeling of wanting to cry about ever owning a home!

This reminds me a bit on my kitchen, layout-wise (it's from 1946). I've been mulling over where to put an island and shelves, and this has helped me visualize it!

We recently bought a home in September, and there happened to be 3 rolls of paper towels in the kitchen. I think I am on roll #2. It's pretty luxurious to use them. Otherwise I use cloths, and I definitely have a "hierarchy" to them as well.
