It's considered poor etiquette to dictate to people how they give gifts and what gifts they can give. If they ask you can try and direct them, but in my experience no one listens when you say "please don't get toys." Our 3 1/2 year old is autistic and loves to mess with the plug ins. The only thing we've found that works is the Safety First Adapter and Plug Cover: http://www.amazon.com/Safety-1st-48301-Adapter-Cover/dp/B00005U8T7. The little clear plastic outlet covers never worked for us, either, and this way we can actually use the outlets.
