One thing cat owners should take into consideration is that plastic bowls can cause acne. If you clean and disinfect the bowl every day this should not be a problem, but if you do not, and/or your cat starts getting pimples around their face and neck, you should consider switching to glass, metal or ceramic dishes.

I'm an anatomist, and am thrilled to hear these events going on. Even more thrilled that people are embracing the event. Even those spectators who are taking cell phone images to 'gross out' their pals, will learn something. And the more people learn about where their food comes from, how it happens the more respect they will have for it. I do not think it has to be a solemn religious event, why can one not be fascinated by anatomy, by the skills of a butcher? I am always fascinated by the animals I dissect, because I am learning from them. Please celebrate death as we celebrate life, there is little time between the two.

Also your statement "... But never, never some kind of freak show art performance. That's just wrong." Worries me. I am married to a performance artist, and have never considered his work a freak show, in fact, I have seen many an art performance that would be considered thoughtful, solemn events.

My husband throws in boiled eggs. I can't stand pickled eggs but it makes him happy!

I'd like to know what 3# of squash or pumpkin is too. It doesn't help, they vary so much in size!

The MDF circles I bought came in that shape. There were also particle board circles but they did not have the nice round edges. If I only had the particle board I would have tried to router or sand the edges.

tarajuly27, I think they would make great cupcake stands. they are very sturdy and if a large base was used you could put 2 tiers on it.

arcamanel, I am sorry your hardware stores don't have the same stuff. I live in Canada, so there may be a difference in what is available. There are some home depots in my city that are small and have virtually no selection, I have to drive to the big ones in the suburbs to get the good stuff. I am glad you found your tabletops elsewhere, but it sucks they were so expensive!

I have a similar problem with my apartment, and it gets worse when thats the only window in the place that opens. I went searching for a screen but couldn't afford a custom one, and the window is a strange shape, so I searched around home depot for something I could cut to fit... Deck Latticing! I bought the wood stuff but would recommend the plastic since the wood splinters a lot when you cut it. I cut a length to wedge into the window and added some hook-n-eyes to make sure its in place. Now the cats can stick their noses thou the holes, but there heads are too big to fit all of the way though. Bonus was I painted it to match the room, so it looks sweet

I despise that I have to fight off those that want to sell me newspaper delivery. From annoying phone calls to sad little paperboys at my door. One company started sending me 'free' newspapers and I had to call and tell them to stop.
Why?

I looked for the Method detergent yesterday at my local grocer and was sad to not find it (although lots of other Method stuff was there) Someday hopefully!

I understand your point Nora, The North American culture is very consumer and 'want' based. We don't need a lot of stuff and not buying things we don't need is probably the greenest thing to do. But you also have to remember that Apartment therapy is a website that highlights designers, designers selling stuff.

Ultimately people (in general) are going to buy stuff, theres a cultural bias for it. But if these people start buying things that have been made from recycled materials (such as all of Harricana's products) than it is at least a step in the right direction

Silverfish need to live in an humid environment. Perhaps your appartment is too moist (I got them when I lived in Halifax, we bought a humidifier... I forget why, but a week later little creepy crawleys were in my floors, once the humidifier was gone they were too)

I've never used borax for getting rid of pests but I do love borax

I think I like the raw hemp in your previous post better, but, alas, I taught my cats to scratch a post of wood covered with hemp, and that post now looks like a bad hair day...

I once saw someone extend their wall paint ~5" into the celing. The walls were a beautiful light green and the celing was white. It made the room feel taller and gave an illusion of crown molding

Why don't you use your old tupperware containers to store something you won't eat, like... nails! That way you don't get cancer and the people who would buy them off of freecycle won't either
