Any chance these would work with white whole wheat flour? They look amazing but I'd love to boost their nutritional value by using whole wheat flour. Not if it would mess them up though. What do you think?

Erin and Aaron, so fun to see your house tour - your place looks great! And we enjoy the two Erin paintings we have in our place every day.

Both their merchandise and service are amazing. We have bought several pieces from them and have been nothing but pleased. However, it is my understanding they are closing their LA store on June 1. :(

I should also add that, aside from its intended humor/irony, we find the deer photo to be really aesthetically beautiful, with a warmth and depth of detail that is not apparent from the reproductions here.

Still more great comments! Thanks again!

Leftofcentergirl - the fence is corrugated roofing metal and it's screwed onto a wooden fence with metal fence posts that's on the other side of the panels. There are probably other ways to do this, but we had a wooden fence already there so this worked well for us. I think the main thing is to make sure the panels are securely screwed to something very sturdy so they can't blow off in strong winds.

ericakn - the magazine rack is from blu dot. i think you can order it online if you don't have a retailer nearby. it comes completely flat and you fold it into the rack yourself (with instructions provided). blu dot makes some cool stuff.

artygal - so glad you checked out and enjoyed the links to the artists we've discovered and like so much ourselves. There is an amazing amount of talent out there!

Miami's Elaine - thanks for sticking up for us. We appreciate your kind reply. No worries though - we aren't easily offended. And you're right, the deer is indeed a photo. And it is intended to be a cheeky/ironic nod to the real thing. We deliberately purchased the rug from a retailer that sells only rugs that are by-products of the food industry and carries no products coming from animals that have been killed strictly for the fur, wool or leather.

We definitely recognize and appreciate the controversy surrounding such things. We are also sensitive to the fact that there is something inherently sad and revolting on some level about the transformation of animals into objects and decoration. In fact, the exploration of this conflict is one of the reasons Kenny Trice's "Living with Taxidermy" series of photos work for us as art.

We think a respectful dialogue about these issues is healthy. And ultimately august stone is correct in that we each must make up our own minds.

Thanks again for all the tremendous feedback!

So nice to hear all the great feedback! Thank you!

CanadianMango, the rug is fairly easy to keep clean. It's actually more of an ivory color so it doesn't show dirt like white would. And we wipe off Otis's paws and belly if they're muddy as soon as we come in. That helps a lot.

I know what you mean about the bedroom curtains. They look odd when the curtains are open as they are in the photos here. But normally we keep them closed for privacy. And we hung them that way just to let some natural light into the room even when they're closed. We'll probably change the window treatments in there at some point. Maybe white plantation shutters?

Wow! Thanks so much for all the kind feedback. It makes us feel great!

Let's see...

Miami's Elaine - Otis is 8 now. And he is such a sweet and happy boy. Always. We adore him.

Zazzu - Otis would totally love it if you smooshed his face!

Meggs - we didn't really put the rocks in because of Otis, we just wanted to reduce the size of the lawn and like how they look. We used pea gravel and did not put anything under it. It does get weedy in the spring, but not too bad the rest of the time and the weeds are easy to pull out. A dose of Roundup would also take care of the weeds, but I hate to use that stuff if I can help it. We've been happy with the gravel beds. Good luck with yours!

Jules H - you are correct - the portrait (of Cletus) is hanging over the shelves. It's easy to hang like that - we just put a picture hook on the edge of the shelf itself and rigged the wire on the back of the picture to hang where we wanted it to fall.

Leo9 - you ARE fancy! Good eye! We just love his collages.

Thanks again for all the kind words. We have had so much fun with this whole process and we really enjoy living here. We are tickled pink to know that others like what we have done, too!

I thought this wouldn't be as good as the longer cooking traditional method, too. But we made it tonight and I could not believe how amazing it was! The sauce was rich and deeply flavored and tasted like it had been simmering for a full day but it was all ready to eat in under an hour! We used guanciale instead of bacon or pancetta and we used all porcini mushrooms and the results were a perfect 10. Thank you for this delicious shortcut. We will definitely make this again.

I'm so confused! I, too, am trying to find the right white for the walls of our 1933 bungalow. We just got some minimalist modern furniture and our art is fairly colorful. Our rooms are small and we want to make the space feel clean, open, and airy. So many people like BM Decorators White, so I went to Home Depot to see if they could match that color since they often have formulas for colors from other brands. They said they have their own Behr Decorators White. Does anyone know how the Behr Decorators White compares to BM's? Is it the same? If not, how is it different? I got a sample of the Behr and, from what I can tell, it's nice. It's just so hard to tell from a small spot - could look completely different in a whole room and look of same paint could vary from room to room. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
