Decorating Over Time: One Room, 3 Years Later

My first thought in seeing the woodwork is how unique and warm it is. I get it though, that the more you look at something and decide it's not your style, the harder it is to accept it. But rather than thinking of ways to cover it up or neutralize it, let it be the focal point! But balance it out with minimal, bright accents. Make sure they are modern with clean, simple lines- vases, sculptural elements, etc. Ask about painting the walls a pale blue? And/or maybe they'd let you change the tile surrounding the fireplace- if it was a lighter color it would help. And tons of lamps to bring in light. Hang mirrors on the walls opposite any windows to reflect more natural light.

Regardless, you should submit a before and after photo! I'd love to see it.

i don't think you can hide them well without making it look awkward, so make it look like you've done it on purpose and coordinate with pops of red (and maybe ice blue? or pale turquoise?) throughout the rest of the room. That way it all flows together and I don't think they'd stand out too much. By the way, I'd love those red machines! Mine are a boring off-white. :)

I never comment on posts here, but I just have to now. I'm in the LA area, a mere 20 minutes from several stores. Probably our (let's be honest- my) biggest meltdown to date here with my husband was in the window coverings section. Yes, I could go back just about any day to make a purchase, but the fact that it's huge, CRAZY overcrowded and confusing to navigate is enough to keep me away for long stretches of time!

since when are granite countertops trendy? last I checked they've been around forever, are affordable, practical, attractive and are far less trendy than concrete, butcher block, etc. etc. etc.

Thanks for featuring a product from Ten Thousand Villages! They sell beautiful home decor items all fairly traded, handmade by people in disadvantaged countries in Asia, Africa and Central and South America. It's about time we recognize that we can get great products and still be supportive of positive business practices and a great cause! I bought all of my Christmas presents there this year and was really happy with everything I got.
