My design confession: I like fairy lights. There, I said it. Now off to find Christmas lights that I can use all year 'round. ;)

This is awesome. It's definitely a cardboard DIY i'd love to try. My cats love cardboard anything. You can make this even more luxurious by adding a small throw blanket for your kitty.

I'm in the 'meh' camp, myself.

Oh i love these! In the Philippines, these are called Banigs and yes many of them were made out of plastic, at least the ones I was familiar with. We did not use them as rugs, we used them as picnic blankets and sleeping mats. I do want one just to relive my youth a bit. :)

My dad, my sister and myself helped me take down a small old closet covered with knotty pine clapboard in my bedroom, and recycle that board and repaint it to make a larger closet the width of the room. I'm pretty happy with how it all looks now. This is the only picture of it I have online: http://www.flickr.com/photos/blackdaisies/2304107586/

What about using cat-fur repellent fabrics? I know the slip cover on my current Ikea couch is pretty good for that, in which it doesn't trap fur and is really easy to vaccuum. Some fabrics are just awful for catching fur and getting it woven in with the threads.

Anyone have any experience with those type of fabrics so I can avoid it in the future when and if I need to replace my couch?

This advice came in about a day or two late for me. Over time, the water pressure from my bathroom sink faucet dwindled to just a thin, broken trickle. I was about to spend the $$ on getting a plumber in, thinking that something was wrong with my pipes. But my dad came over to check it out and told me what the problem was. I'm glad i didn't have to pay for a plumber (though I did treat him and my mom to a bbq), but the problem now seems so obvious and simple to fix.

lol... though to think about it, how am i getting away with using a lot of wood?

Oh well, still... nay to taxidermy, vintage or no.

Definitely nay for me. The new age-ist in me thinks that surrounding yourself with dead things isn't very good for the general energy of your home.

(and yes, for me, this includes saying no to leather and dried flowers)

"People..... Humans are more important than animals. Yes, it's nice to have a pet - but not over people. "

If the person I was dating, allergic or not, had that attitude about pets, then I wouldn't be dating them.

Even though my boy is allergic, he understands (as a former dog owner) that pets are family and there's nothing like the bonding and companionship you get from a fuzzy little person that greets you when you come home and lies on your belly when you feel sad and lonely.

I've heard of people with cat allergies getting tolerant to certain cats after a while. I'm a little allergic to my kitties.. some eye watering and sneezing is something I could live with. My BF however is really allergic to them. He doesn't live here yet but he does stay over quite a bit.

For those that want to keep the boy and the kitty I've found a few things that seem to have helped (also experience taken from friends of ours where she had 4 cats and a small downtown condo and an allergic boyfriend who'd do anything for her ... awww). I keep them out of the bedroom always now. I vacuum twice a week. The couch gets dust-bustered every day. I use a microfiber or damp cloth to keep the dust from building up on surfaces. I clean the litter box every day. I use Febreze anti-allergen sometimes, though I admit I'm kinda afraid of the stuff. I do have an air filter and I run it for at least an hour every day while he's around.

Other things you can do would be to invest in a slip cover for your furniture that you can wash. Keep rugs and upholstery to a minimum (wish I thought of that when I bought my ultra cozy chenille covered office desk chair :P). A damp cloth or rubber glove can remove fur from most surfaces really easily. If you can invest in the best vaccuum cleaner your money can get.

Doing this dilligently helps him get by without drugs, though some days he does take Aerius which he says helps a lot.

It is a bit more work, but being able to keep my cats and my boy is worth it. Treating your house like a hospital isn't such a bad thing. :)

As for the post... at least the kitty went to a good home with a friend and not a shelter or out on the streets. That would be the only way I'd part with my cats.

If this could provide a good workout comparable to a decent yoga DVD, i'm getting one.

The nice thing about the Wii fit is that more "games" will come out on it as well. :D

Landscaping: plant annuals like impatiens and petunias

Exterior: replace my downspouts. remove carpet from porch and repaint porch floor and stairs

Kitchen: repaint! new counters and maybe new doors if the budget allows

Basement: repair water damaged concrete floor and walls.

Can someone give me like, half a million dollars so I could just pay someone to do all of this? /cry

If I were to do something like that, I'd use real books. I hate "manufactured" clutter.

ooh, wishes!

Mine would be:

1) I'd love a new kitchen.
2) new hardwood floors throughout the main floor would be nice
3) a gardener would come in handy.

There are two bank boxes full of stuff currently under my bed... and a dust bunny or two or three.

I read it was bad feng shui to keep stuff under the bed. But there's so much room down there.
