Mine are scary dull and I know it. Time to get that taken care of. I will call this week to get them sharpened!

We have a fan that pretends to vent and no window in our bathroom. Keeping it mildew-free has not been easy. I agree with most of the suggestions: squeegee the walls, leave the door open afterward (cooler showers are NOT happening for me, either!) and CLEAN REGULARLY. I know that sounds horrible, and I'm not questioning your housekeeping skills--some of the newer bathroom cleaners have mildew retardants. If you have to replace caulking in the tub/shower, do so--and put it mildew-resistant versions (worth the work). Most bathroom wall scrubbing foams are a dilute bleach solution of around 5% or less--so check the ingredients first and save yourself some money. Some may also contain additional mold or mildew inhibitors, too, which seem to help a LOT--but weekly cleaning is pretty much a must.

Awwww! I'm a cat person.
My dad made my scratching post for me and he's found that cats are particularly fond of yellow pine for clawing. In fact, a lot of cats will ignore other stuff if this is an option. It's not 100%, but it's worth a try if you can find the wood and use it as the frame, maybe!

Ok, from someone with a PhD--
Biologically, you should not mix acetaminophen and alcohol. In other words, do NOT take Tylenol for the hangover; it does a lot more liver damage than it normally would.
I overindulge occasionally, and sometimes with new medications you can end up getting hit harder than expected. Hangovers happen.
I've found that my best treatment is to have a very large glass of orange juice. The sugars and other trace nutrients in the juice seem to help reduce the jittery and unsteady feeling you may have. It also makes me feel hydrated faster than water alone--which sometimes causes nausea. I'm usually not up to eating and don't want to try at that point. Cranberry juice is my 2nd choice, but it's thinner somehow and less satisfying. Although I'm a coffee fiend, I won't have any until I'm feeling more normal. That and some Advil have been the best options I've personally found (this is not medical advice).

I have taken more than a few of these, and I usually come up with Seattle. I live in... NOT Seattle. But someday, I'm going to live there for a while. Seattle sounds great to me. I did take the FindYourSpot quiz and I'm awaiting my results... but I generally don't do quizzes that are so invasive. And it's taking forever.

I get this too--and mostly from my parents. I'm not 100% sure I will live in this area for the next 30 years (long enough to pay off a mortgage), I have no children (by choice), and I'm much happier renting! I will eventually own a home when my parents pass on. I'm not in a hurry for that. And I've seen the responsibilities of home ownership--no thank you! Why encumber and limit myself? I'm a young professional in my mid 30s, but I wouldn't say I'm settled in or that I have a stable career yet. It's not worth the financial risk to me. It surprised me to hear how often the childless choice got mentioned in here too. There are still social stigmas to not following the herd and getting married, buying a home, and having children. Instead, I'm a scientist. I like to think I have other things to contribute to the world, and my choice and decision to rent is far more practical for me.

I actually love this! I hate trying to do a week at a time as well--it makes me feel stressed to try to plan a week's worth of meals at once and I always end up spending way more than I want to. I like the buy staples plus one awesome meal strategy! It fits better with my lifestyle and budget. I tend to hit the produce section first and get what I want there, and then I can think about the rest of what I "needed" in terms of "can I still afford it?" or "do I need it that badly?"

Hmmm.. green tea, an orange, 2 cans of soup, my soup cup & lid (because there are 2 others in the office that look just like mine, but mine still has the lid), my chinese soup spoon. A packet of parmesan and an oddball constant comment teabag. Tooth-brushing supplies and hairspray. Seriously, I just looked :) sometimes also holds honey & my coffee cup, or apples instead of oranges, and my water cup when empty.

Not all apartments will let you do such things. We're not permitted to hang anything under our cabinets, for example--lights, hooks, paper towel holders--all are strictly forbidden. And I've been in my apartment for almost 12 years. Painting is fine--if you like white.

I actually have had a VERY hard time with this assignment. I think the spirit was to choose art you already have and display it. I'm just... not artsy. Seriously. What I do have I mostly already have hanging... I have 2 items that I personally would like to have framed. One is reasonable to do (and that's what I chose; a photo from a friend/budding photographer) and the other is a giant poster print of Van Gogh's Starry Night. I love it, but I'm not feeling flush enough to get it framed and hung right now.

dznomore: The Year of the House. I like that! It's a lot like part of my New Year's Resolution.
I'm doing the Cure too... I've outboxed some stuff and flat-out pitched other stuff and I'm almost caught up. I still have to do the 10-minute-new-perspective from yesterday. I could not think of somewhere that I don't normally sit to observe my apartment! (At least, the public spaces, and my bedroom is all but standing room only unless you're sitting in the chair or sleeping in the bed).

I have cats and flowers. They're not usually interested in chewing on them.
I'm feeling very tired after this weekend's cure because I had the extended version: take down holiday decor & tree, clean up after tree, THEN do all floors... which somehow morphed into kitchen ceiling & walls as well (I wanted the dryer lint off the ceiling before I did floors). Officially up-to-date and happy about it! My apartment looks SO much better!

Urban Cholita: you can list those usable items on Craigslist or Freecycle and people can come pick them up!

I put flowers on my nightstand (I get to enjoy them that way), on end tables, and occasionally the coffee table. I've thought about putting them in the kitchen window but I have roommate-related issues with that.

I definitely liked it better without the vinegar--the flavors of the kale and bacon and egg came through much better. Nice blend.

I tried it for breakfast yesterday. Honestly, it looked beautiful, but I was disappointed in the flavor. Will try it again without the vinegar on the kale--it overwhelmed the flavor of everything else (and I like vinegar on my greens in general).

Young Children? Good Questions

My favorite Christmas gift every year was a gift certificate to a bookstore from my aunt. I counted on that and I honestly LOVED trying to figure out which book(s) to use it on--they had to be special! I could get something that my allowance would never cover. I don't see modern day gift cards as being that much different, if they're store-specific. I don't know about a catch-all use-anywhere VISA though. iTunes, maybe?

I'd say it depends on the recipe that you use for your nog. I frankly love mine (I prefer non-alcoholic) and it's one of my few splurges every year. I've only ever found one eggnog-in-the-store that comes close to homemade, and that's from a local-ish dairy and comes in old-fashioned glass milk bottles (and costs a bleeding fortune but soooo worth it). I'm also not squeamish about raw eggs--I eat raw cookie dough etc.--but I'm very careful to keep it COLD.
