I use one of the deep drawers in my kitchen for dish towels and pot holders and I keep my blades in the back of that drawer with the blade flat against the back of the drawer. The towels keep them cushioned so you don't accidentally scrape your hand and since they're in the back, you can still easily access the towels. It works well for me.
