i've been doing this with my boys for years. they love it.

go with a small company, owner operated. you want the guy that you hire to be there every day. if that contractor has to sub out some work, he should still show up and be there while the other contractor is working.
also, if they are a small company, they will need a fair amount down to buy materials, so check them out on angie's list and check their referrals.

i am having my third child six years after my second and see nothing wrong with a baby shower. especially, since the new baby is a different gender than the first two. also, as an experienced mom, i think it is very wise of her to ask for diapers. my advise would be to decline the invite because you certainly wouldn't want to spoil the mood at this joyous event. moms need support, not criticism.

this is a great idea and one that i have tried. it only works for my older son who likes to build his legos and then leave it up for awhile. when you have a lego "re-builder" like my youngest son, who builds and builds, this just doesn't work. legos are everywhere and all mixed up and that is how they like it. you can sort and classify all you want and it just gets all tossed about. it's best to just be at peace with the legos for a few years.

reality....my husband is a contractor and our garage looks like a bomb went off and then a bunch of hoarders moved their stuff into our garage.
