My bathroom is the same, except it's green, the tile is green, the tub is green, and yes, the toilet is green. (And all different versions of green.)

Definitely a rug.

It looks so cold and I understand being a minimalist, I hate clutter, but it also needs to have some personality. This looks like a "first" apartment with whatever furniture you could get and not being able to afford decorative items- curtains, some pictures or art work?

You know what, actually, I think the best thing for your space is to just give me that chair. ;)

Apartment Therapy - Good Questions: Home Office S.O.S.?

Hello AT, My home office needs help.

1. I think the yellow just looks dark because of the dark furniture.

2. While I do love the chair, it doesn't work with the desk. Is there anyway you could get a new desk? One of those clear acyclic desks would look really nice (if someone has a link.)

3. How about getting vintage wood ones and painting them white or some other light color? Or if you got a new desk, I would paint the dictionary stand white and have the vintage wood shelves stay wood. :\

4. I do like anglepoise (sp?) lamps on desk, especially I think the nice clean look would make your office look less cluttery. But I am not sure if that would be enough light. How about a cleaner desk lamp and a floor lamp behind the dictionary stand?

5. I love the mannequin. I think you should lose the hats and the little notes and just keep it very simple. It's okay if it is a little tattered.
As for art, I would place it inside the molding. Get three big frames (at least 11X14) with a mat for a picture about 8X10, three similar photos that speak to you. And hang them in a trio. Dick Blick has some cheap frames with mats.
Or I would use a bulletin board for behind the computer and two pieces of art in the other ones.

6. I think a standing mirror would look great and go with the mannequin and would seem less crowding.

I would check out See Jane Work for ideas. They have some great stuff that really easily lighten up a dark place.

I like the bedroom but I dont like each room is sooo color-coordinated. Gets a bit boring.

Only one room?

Everything seems so small and like it doesn't fit together. I do like that couch though.

But I am marking it as a longshot.

I agree. Don't touch the desk! I usually don't like such dark wood either but the design of this desk is beautiful and nothing else would do it justice. Get a nice white chair, which would brighten it up, and break up the desk when you look at it and not make it seem SOOO dark.

Get a desk lamp, a silver or white one too, nothing too dark...

I would also buy some white or light colored ceramics and put on the top shelf with the artwork, it will also lighten things up.

"Now step off my case, be original, post YOUR f*cking answers and don't come down on me."

Don't use AT as a way to air all of your grievances... Someone asked a specific question, not an open one like "What should I do to make my office better?"... People answered correctly, besides you and I can tell from your posts that you are certainly not a professional interior decorator so what right do you have giving unsolicited advice?

Fix yourself before you do anything else- you need some help.

For the OP, sadly, I can't help, but at my work, there is an amazing grey/white fabric stuff that doesn't show pinholes and still looks very sleek and modern.

I would also like to add that in my first apartment, I went out to Ikea and bought a bunch of stuff and I sat in the chairs I got just a few times in the 8 months I was there because they were so uncomfortable.

Apartment Therapy - Good Questions: Is This Chair Worth This Price?

See how comfortable it is as Ikea stuff is very iffy in that aspect. It is only half the price of some really good chairs from places like Room & Board... I would probably get a cheaper chair or no chair at all and save up for good one. I wouldnt spend $350 at Ikea for a chair.
