A plain old bar of soap works too. My mom used to write math problems on the mirror for me to solve as a kid.

I love my melamine tiffin. The colors are always fantastic. I have a 3-tiered one in pleasing cool tones.
Great post.

I love organizing and keeping things orderly & tidy. My BF, on the other hand, keeps things like cardboard boxes & piles of clothes sitting in his room for weeks or months at a time. (We don't share an apartment).
He recently tore his ACL and can't get around too well, so I took advantage one Saturday morning and said "Babe- you just lay there in bed & tell me what I can do with all of this stuff". He resisted at first, but I sort of just started shuffling things around and he began to chime in.
I handed him piles of mail and asked him to sort through what he needed and used one of those boxes as a trash can. We went through the piles of clothes and decided on "donate, sell, save, pitch". I put his sports equipment away in his closet (since he won't be using them anytime soon).
In the end, I was able to drag 3 bags of "donate" out to my car, pitch a large box of trash, he had a nice clear space to move about on his crutches without fear of slipping, and I felt helpful and productive. WIN!
Of course this won't work for everyone, but I thought I'd share. ;)

My BF is ALWAYS out of toilet paper at his apt and it drives me totally insane. He'll buy that stupid 4 pack every time, knowing full well that it will run out quickly.
That is the one thing I do not mess around with. I go for the pure insanity 36 pack or whatever.
Everything else I will try to buy if I know I am getting close to the end.
I am fickle with shampoo and will often switch before I am even out. Is it just me, or does your hair build up a tolerance to shampoo and render it pointless after a while?

What a good idea for a post. Glad I'm not the only one who cant let go of these things but wants to be taken seriously.

I feel your pain. Sometimes these things are just a pain in the ass to continue moving, year after year (no matter how many crates).
A friend of me declared "I'm not moving again until I can afford movers" because of his 2-3 metro racks full of records.
I have thought about doing it almost every year but something stops me. I long for some collectible records I parted with when I was in need of cash, but all in all you have to remind yourself that it's that much less crap you have collecting dust. If you parted with them, chances are you weren't taking advantage of owning them. You're not going to all of a sudden drag your prized possessions to the local thrift store on a whim. If you're on the fence, chances are they aren't worth keeping.
I recently parted with several boxes of letters from pen pals (14 years in the making). I rarely looked through them, and realized I was holding onto my youth for no reason. Was I really going to scan them all and start a blog like I told myself? Let's get serious.
You don't want to end up like my mother who saves every shoe or jewelry box JUST IN CASE someone needs one someday. Records might get you more scene points, but it's the same thing, really.

Regrets, I've Had a Few: Getting Rid of a Collection

Wow @animo- I think aquariums, dog food, and broken spatulas takes the cake!

@Prettypidjun- I love those llama figures too! I only have 2, but I have been buying any alpaca or llama things I see.

I cannot stop buying pens. I carry a pen case with about 10 around in my purse always. My friends tease me. I have a desk drawer full of them. Mostly they are Japanese pens that have an extremely fine tip (Kinokuniya Bookstores are the best for finding such).
I also still have a ton of stationery sets, notebooks, & stickers (usually cutesy Japanese stuff from San-X or similar). Even though I love technology, it makes me sad that people don't write letters very much anymore. All of my office supply love stems from this. I used to have a ton of pen pals in high school and moved several boxes of letters for about 15 years. I finally got rid of them all last year and kind of regret it.
I recently saw some gorgeous old pencil sharpeners at an antique store and it made me want to start collecting them...

What's the Weirdest Thing You Collect?

I have several old cellphones tucked away in the event that I see a FB post like "help- my phone broken, does anyone have a spare"? What can I say, I enjoy feeling needed.
I greatly mourned the death of my 3rd gen iPod late last year. Every few months I see it in my drawer and turn it on in hopes it will start right up. Instead, I always see the dead mac. Still can't let it go.
I did, however, successfully abandon my 1st gen iMac when I left LA in 2005, after many failed attempts to figure out how to get gmail to work on it, and realizing my iPod had more memory. :(

Where is the competition? Are there people who prefer a toaster when given a choice?
I never used toaster ovens until I had a roommate who had one. Now I can't imagine life without it. So much better than using a whole oven for small single meals, and nothing will get stuck!

Dream Apt:
1. Sunlight is a MUST! So, plentitful windows, plz.
2. Hardwood floors.
3. Built in bookcases/shelving.
4. Storage.
5. Steam heat (I hate paying insane gas bills).
6. Closet space.
7. Powerful plumbing!
8. Character. Newly renovated units rarely wow me. It's sad to see a great old school house or train station remodeled to be boring carpeted drywall boxes. Blech!
Bonus:
Breakfast nook or window seat.
