could you fit something (foam core) around the pipes to match the line of the window opening, so that it looks like a continuous line. you could do a fabric curtain for the door opening and upholster the foam core, as well. if you made the foam core "valance" two sided you could recess the curtain rod inside. i wish i could draw you a picture and use my hands! my words aren't enough! maybe glass blocks in the window opening? once the place the place is furnished the sound will be softened, too.

what a beautiful home! you've got a great eye! Love that you use wallpaper -even on the ceiling! In living rm, have you ever thought of swapping the convex mirror over the sofa with the framed art piece over the fireplace? mirror might be too small, but an oval or circle would look great on that wall.

also, loved the fence in the back such a cool contrast to all of the refinement you guys have worked so hard on. i could go on and on... looks wonderful!

this idea reminds me of my grandma's kitchen in SoDak. she had a pullout cutting board and i always thought it was so neat. i like the idea of the compost underneath. i don't like all of the nitpicky comments above. i am so glad this post lead me to your site, which lead me to the letter you wrote to your sister, which i loved.
