YES, YES, YES! Mail is the WORST. It piles up in no time. Ever see that episode of Seinfeld in which Kramer tries to cancel his mail? If only that were possible!

I once lived in a pink house in the UK. People could actually send letters addressed to "the pink house," and we'd get them. It was great! Also, I love places like Notting Hill or Jericho where whole blocks have flats painted in different colors---so lively. Why be boring?

If it could be insulated & a bathroom could be installed, well, those folks would be in trouble because I would totally try to take over the place pirate-style. Absolutely gorgeous!

This isn't actually helpful, I just want to say, I feel your pain! I actually slept better than usual during the recent hurricane---I think because my apt was quieter than usual! I, too, am next to the elevator shaft. But it's better than my old neighbor who would play his "compositions" in the wee hours . . . Ah, the things we apartment dwellers have to deal with!

Never had them, but I am considering them . . . they might work for kids because 1) I hate seeing big slices of cake/a whole cupcake in the trash when someone doesn't like it and/or 2) it reduces the amount of cake/sugar they're packing in. They get a bite or three but can't hugely pig out. PS - If you're making the cake, can't you adjust the sweetness/moistness of them?? That's what I'd do. Most commercially sold desserts are gross; that's why I make them at home.

I have no great suggestions, but I feel your pain. I used to live very close to Times Square with a flashing sign that would go on and off all night. I wore a sleep mask and had blackout curtains, but the light always seeped in . . .

I've never paid a fee---but that means doing a lot of legwork and having a little luck. Plus, knowing how to read between the lines. If it sounds too good to be true, it IS too good to be true. You basically learn what is reasonable and how to spot an honest ad by just going through the experience, as painful and annoying as that may be!
