I love this! So nice to see someone else who has tons of animal artwork. One of my friends always makes fun of me for how many horses, rabbits, and foxes are all over my house, but what can ya do when you love animals! Embrace it!

Oh, and that pendant lamp is GREAT. Source?

I like it! It feels less "blocked," visually, because of the lack of high backs. Maybe like littlekiwi suggested, you could also move the chairs on the end so they're against a wall until you need them. It would open the room up even more, but you would still have the chairs when needed.

I love cool rocks. My boyfriend doesn't have any "collections," except for his tendency to hoard the boxes his gadgets come in. My only collections are tons of equestrian art. We still live apart, but are talking about marriage, and we've been managing our furniture (acquiring and selling) in contemplation of living together. I constantly wonder how we're going to combine our styles. Now I wish we had collections to combine!

It isn't a collection, but my man's mother has a couple of statues of, like, a chef and a butler, I think, except they're maybe three feet tall and somewhat flattened on the sides? So when you look at their profile, you can see bulbous eyes and protruding noses, and they're holding trays in front, but from head-on, they're extremely flat. I don't know, I've never seen them before, but they are creepy. She has their "chef" holding a martini glass with a fake martini in it. Oh, and she gave my boyfriend a butler. He has many wrinkles on his face and I'm pretty sure he wants to kill me. He used to be in the middle of the room, thanks to the sectional, but after "oh, whoops" tripping over him all the time, I managed to convince my boyfriend to move him into a corner. Now he is partially hidden my a fake tree, and I feel better. I just really hate people-shaped things. Especially statues of servants. But I think real animal bones are kind of neat - as long as they died of natural causes. Definitely no to the doll heads!

Sam I Am - I am fortunate enough to have two horses. I am not wealthy, and my displays of my horse memorabilia is not any more a way to shove my privilege in other people's face than someone else's 60" flatscreen.

I have a lot of horse things around my house because I LOVE horses. I always have, and they will always be a huge part of my life. Nothing is more difficult, though, than finding somewhere to display my old hunt saddle in my teeny tiny apartment. I really like photo 6. Maybe I could dig up some old show photos to display near my saddle... wherever it ends up. I agree with threeacres - a saddle in the middle of nowhere is a bit, odd! It needs context! Back when I lived with my parents, I had a long pot shelf. I put my old saddle up there, along with an old wooden box used for shipping rockets and a black and white drawing of a still life I did in undergrad. My room was decorated in greys, ivory, and lilac, and I had framed pictures of my horses around the room. I thought it worked pretty well. Plus, it was my room - not nearly as overwhelming as my living areas!

I heard fans are remarkably less dangerous if you refrain from putting your fingers in between the blades.

I have a ceiling fan in each of the two major rooms in my apartment (living room and bedroom), so I feel like a table fan is unnecessary, but these are so cute I could almost justify it!

Cute! I live in a cookie cutter apt in CenPho, so I know how you feel in trying to give your place some character. I think you did a great job!

I was thinking about frosting my glass closet doors with the films, but now I think I'm sold on starching fabric instead.

I have a teal Navajo saddle blanket, but haven't found a place for it in my house. After I stopped using it as a saddle blanket (it worked for my Arabian, but my Quarter Horse needed a pad), I used it as a rug in my grey, black, cream, and light purple room. It looked great!

Please no posts of the horse all decked out! There's having a barrel racing clinic at my barn this weekend and I will have my fill of noxious pink splint boots and tack. I feel like that is a severely western thing, and it hurts my English sensibilities. Even when I was 8, I had no interest in pink horse stuff. Glitter, however, is a different story!

No fighting, no food, no open drawers or closet/bathroom doors, and no case books! I prefer no tv, but my boyfriend has one in his room. The dog, however, will always have his preferred spot between us, tucked under the covers with his head on my pillow. Bonus points if I wake up with his head tucked into my neck.

What Isn't Allowed In Your Bedroom?

I... actually have stuff from Ashley's. No bedroom set or anything, but an 8-drawer dresser, my couch, and my dining room table. The only thing I wouldn't buy again is my dining room table, just because I have been damaging it non-stop in one way or another since I bought it. But my dresser is enormous, so heavy, has deep drawers, and the drawers slide in and out perfectly after several years. My couch is so cute and comfortable - I get nothing but compliments on it. And my bed (box springs and mattress, no headboard or footboard) is sooooo comfy! I would never ever buy a set for a room, but their individual pieces are well-made and sturdy, and reasonably priced.

I'm working on my entry this week, and I wish I had a light switch like that! So pretty! I'm going to hang a shelf with a reed diffuser, because my entry is downstairs in an itty bitty nook - with no air flow, it smells musty really quickly. Right now it's just beige and empty. But there is my dog, who sits on the stairs and sits up, waving his paws in the air. He's always so excited to see me, and I'm just as excited to see him!

BrianneA, I had the exact same problem with my Thomas O'Brien AND my Ralph Lauren towels. It turned out that it the salicylic acid I was using on my face, which has a bleaching effect. I switched to different (cheap) towels to dry my face, and replaced my bath towels with white ones just in case.

Bookmarking this as inspiration. My bf has quintessential bachelor pad furniture - chunky, square, black leather, chrome, and glass. Meanwhile, I have neutral furniture, cozy upholstery, and lots of wood. It's going to be a challenge merging those!

Please, no red accent wall. Those make me cry. I like DeborahMcP's suggestion of pale grey-blue. It will be subtle enough, not compete with the artwork, and still provide some contrast. As for the artwork, I think that wall looks a little smothered - I know you're worried that it will get lost on the high walls, but if you anchor a piece with furniture or a window, I think it will be fine. I'm not saying move all the artwork that's there - I like the little dining area and like the art that's over the table, but maybe one or two of the larger pieces? Just a thought. Make sure you post pics when you're done! I'm excited to see what you choose to do!

I moved in November and then had a marathon of MPRE, semester projects, finals, and illness, so my apartment was pretty bare bones. Last weekend I crafted and decorated for Christmas, and it felt SO. GOOD. I feel like my living room has a personality now, and even though that personality is seasonal, it reminded me of how happy it can make me feel to go through the process of making things just right. It feels like I bonded with the new place, and I can't wait to replace the lights and garland with artwork and whatever else. But I do love my lights.

Waaaaah! Number 3 reminds me of the peacock wall hanging I found at an antique store and passed up because I was in the process of moving, and I lost it forever!! I was going to put it in my built-ins fireplace screen style, after I spray painted it glossy white. Sad.

Also, I love peacock-inspired stuff. It reminds me of Flannery O'Connor.

Mulder, my corgi/chihuahua mix but probably half fox!) loves to tuck himself between the sofa and the wall. If I'm working at the dining room table, though, he's right at my feet.

When it's couch time, he likes to alternate between snuggling between me and my boyfriend and sitting on "his" chair.

He's been at his "grandparents" this week because I've been sick, and I can't wait to have him home! This place isn't the same without him.
