We've registered for our wedding (in under three months...), but I'm starting to prefer to give cash gifts (otherwise I end up picking really random things from their registry because it makes me laugh). However, we're going to 3 weddings in the weeks preceding our wedding, so I am worried if I give a cash gift they'll feel obligated to give us either cash in the same amount or a gift worth the same or something, at which point it seems just silly to be exchanging money back and forth. So I think I'm going to do gifts for those that register, maybe with a personal element or something special thrown in (a nice bottle of wine or something). At least then I feel like it will be less monetary and more thoughtful. Why I Love Wedding Registries (But Still Sometimes Go Rogue) |

I only buy unsweetened plain almond milk, but still notice that mac & cheese or whatever turns out a little sweeter than regular milk... But I don't mind it too much. Still, I wouldn't recommend it, but I haven't found a better option! What Are the Best Dairy Substitutes for Savory Recipes? Good Questions |

I've always spread butter onto the tortilla (one side, the one that will be the outside) before putting it into a hot pan and then loading up on toppings on one half. Then I fold it over, and then flip once it's melty. Works really well for me! How to Make Crispy, Cheesy Quesadillas on the Stove Top Cooking Lessons from The Kitchn |

I spent $14 on a tiny vodka redbull once (well, we each got one, so I guess twice, resulting in $28), which was completely ridiculous. I now won't spend more than $10 on any cocktail, even the super fancy ones, because I have better things to spend my money on than something I will suck down in 10 minutes, maybe a half hour tops. I try to eat carbs while drinking and right before bed, and drink a ton of water all night. Keep water by the bed in case I wake up at any point (I tend to sleep terribly after drinking). I already have a washi tape addiction (I keep buying it under the excuse that I will use it for my wedding... how? Not sure yet.), and I saw this but I don't know how well it'll come off! Chocolate is hardly ever my first choice. I love plain chocolate cake, but otherwise I like it as a component rather than the star. Any chocolate based ice creams are out, chocolate chocolate cookies are out, and I'd even much rather have a blondie than a brownie. Chocolate candy can be good, but in very small amounts. I just think I hate the overwhelming richness and potential bitterness that can come with chocolate. Is Chocolate Your Very Favorite Thing, Like Ever? Reader Survey |

My dad is the chef of the family, but not the baker, and my mom didn't cook hardly anything, so I kind of took on the baker role when I was old enough. We had lots of packaged cookies, ice cream, boxed cake and brownie mixes, and other not-from-scratch things until I started experimenting. Then I would make all kinds of different cookies! I'd pull out the old Betty Crocker cookbook, see if there was anything that we had all the ingredients for, recruit my brother as my sous chef, and whip something up. That was so fun! Unsweetened is called for in Lambingtons! It was an epic search in the grocery store to find it, but sweetened just wouldn't do in that recipe. Sweetened & Unsweetened Coconut: Both Deserve a Place in the Cupboard Ingredient Spotlight |

I go with my gut. I look at a lot of recipes on Pinterest, but always go to the source to see if the site looks decent, if the recipe seems to make sense, and if it is missing anything. I haven't had too many failed recipes this way, and sometimes I'll search for a similar recipe to compare just to make sure. When Do You Trust (or Mistrust) a Recipe? Reader Discussion |

I spent the last three days at home sick! But I really don't like soups, especially not ones with noodles in them, and I don't really remember what I would get when I was little, so I have only a few standards. Jello is always a must (not sugar free, because I need the calories when I am sick), and applesauce makes me feel better immediately. I also have boxed mac & cheese sometimes, or plain noodles, or rice (rice is my favorite!). Today I'm back at work and trying to be a regular person, but still had applesauce and jello! Oh man, I bought them and made the mistake of opening the bag on the way home from the store because I needed a snack. And promptly ate nearly the whole bag. I only use buttermilk in 1 recipe, pancakes, that we eat very rarely, and use white vinegar with almond milk (lactose intolerance means we don't keep regular milk around) every time and it always turns out nicely. I might have to try lemon or lime juice next time, though, maybe it would add a nice bright flavor! How to Make an Easy Buttermilk Substitute Cooking Lessons from The Kitchn |

Dang, I like #4, the Preston Hollow Kitchen Cart, but it links to Sams Club, not Costco like I hoped/it said. But I have been thinking about getting a kitchen cart, especially one with a door on at least part of it like that one.
