The chandelier is from ZGallerie. I just looked on their website and I don't see it anymore, but I have seen it in other places as well, so you can probably still find it somewhere.

Reader Poll: What Should I Do With This Stairwell?

Hi All, here's the reason we got rid of the closet. We are very fortunate that our home has ample storage, shed and attic space so I really didn't need that closet and the wall space was much more valuable to us for the purpose it ended up being used for.

Thanks everyone!

Here's the lowdown on the concrete floor. They first had to grind off the paint so that the cement overlay could adhere to the floor. Then a Concrete Micro-Topping was put on. I wanted it to be a bit messy and industrial looking so I had the guy add long swipes and strokes when he applied the overlay (you could also get it very smooth). At this point you could add an acid stain to color it (I didn't). Then it gets sealed with a glossy sealer to finish it up. I will be writing a full detailed post with images on my site, Old House New Tricks, in the near future.

Oh, and that crack in the floor didn't leak so we were ok, if yours does I would get a foundation person in and see what they say.

@cicero I have no plans to change the floors for no. I really like the classic look of them. I also used them as a base for the rest of the kitchen renovation which I will reveal later.

@el70229 The Quartz is 26" x 53" and it was $140. One thing to note is that is does get cold if you live in a colder climate. I have a small space heater under my table for the winter and it warms it up really well.

@ Zachs the certification course I took was $250
@ Designade, yes you need special equipment like the Hepa Vac to do this properly. These are the things you learn in the course.
@ OJanet. I took a course that made me a certified lead renovator by the EPA. It's the same course that all contractors are required to take by law. If you have the money you can have a lead abatement company come in and get rid of your lead. DIY'ers are not required to take it. That is what this post is about, to educate yourself in how to do things correctly if you are going to start tearing things apart without knowledge of what you're doing. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
