we had a rat problem and in the end nothing but poison worked - we tried basically everything else we could find first. yep, dead rats stink, but if that's all that works, it's worth it (ugh). What To Do with Mouse in the House? Good Questions |

the best thing about making crackers is that once you've done it a few times, you don't need a recipe...you don't even need to measure. it's just flour + liquid (+ flavors) to the right texture, roll, bake. easier than the hummus to go with them. we have a similar situation with the cats (not the hoarding). we had some leftover "havahart critter ridder" from a major rat infestation (thankfully over, sparked by the former slobs next door moving out and leaving their rats hungry) that we just thought to try - it seems to be working! basically, it is just a shaker of pepper pellets that animals don't like the smell of and we just shook it over our gardens and such. i recently switched from using scrubbing pads/sponges to using simple bar cloths/washcloths. they work brilliantly and don't harbor funk. that is, i'm sure they would, but they are in constant circulation through the wash - use for one load of dishes, toss in the "dirties" tub by the washer, and throw them into the next load (with some exceptions for delicate laundry). growing up we followed the german tradition (or, danish, in our house). i still don't allow for the tree to be taken down before epiphany, but i'm more flexible on when it goes up (just...not *too* early). O Tannenbaum: When Do You Put Up Your Tree? |

i fail to see how using 1-ply tp saves paper...there's a set amount of absorbancy needed to wipe effectively, so you can either use few sheets of the cushy stuff or many sheets of the crummy stuff. or go cloth, as judiau mentioned. Green Confessions: An Illicit 2-Ply Affair |
