Neil Gaiman's graphic novels, short stories, and fictions are great, not sure how to categorize his work. For travel essays, Bill Bryson is the best. I've read all of his travel essays and they are humours and informative.

The after looks great! my only concern is that the new shelves seem a lot smaller than the wire shelves, so a lot of usable space was lost just to make it look nice.

I prefer the before, it shows the texture and dimension of the lamp much better than the after. And I think the biggest problem with the lamp is the stark white lampshade, it didn't go with the original colors of the lamp.

I grew up in San Francisco. My parents were able to buy a house in a nice neighborhood by the beach 20 years ago. But the real estate market is so expensive now that me and my husband could only afford to buy in Oakland in a so-so neighborhood. At least the weather is much nicer on this side of the bay.

I moved to Oakland 6 years ago. While living in SF, I never had to pay more than $600 for rent in SF with roommates. They were not the nicest apartments mostly in the Mission and Haight Ashbury area, but I would never spend half of my take home pay for rent, that's just crazy talk. I would rather spend the money on going out and doing stuff then be house/apartment poor.

I use mint.com too and it works real well. But i will take a look at the ones here for comparison.

I am not gonna splurge on any furniture and have it be ruined by my year and a half old toddler. We did splurged on the kitchen stove but it's already got dinged by the toddler after a year. Another thing is we plan to move in a few years to a bigger house so the furnitures we have now will probably not fit in the new house, so why bother splurging. It's Ikea all the way in the mean time. I do have vintage pieces from Craigslist and thrift stores to mix it up a little.

You should have used the gold knobs in the kitchen on the vanity, would look nice with the mirror.

It was a cool decorative statement the first time I saw "EAT" in a kitchen. Now it's become a decorating cliché. In general I don't like literal statements in rooms because I hate being told what to do! ;)

The kitchen looks amazing!

The green looks very jarring. For such strong color a little goes a long way. The color is fighting with everything else in the room. Love the Beatles theme though.
