They probably used to be part of the railings, and when the old railings were removed, the lion heads were repaired and left behind. Do the things that look like lids on the lions' backs come off? If the area where you live has a historical society or local newspaper, there may be old photographs of this place to give you some more hints about their original purpose. Long saloon doors or changing room doors (any kind of frameless door) might work too. Probably they'd be less expensive than the glass door I referenced above. Temporary Privacy Door Ideas for Arched Doorway? Good Questions |

They were a good investment for us. My son started playing with them at pre-school, and loved them so much that I bought some for home. He was three when we got them, and is just about to turn 7 and still uses them to built mazes and bases for his superheroes. They are easy to clean, and they pack up very neatly and compactly. I'd bet it was some kind of table for a small boat. A chart could be placed under the glass, where it would be held flat and dry. The glass could be written on with a china marker, and would protect the chart if the table was used for other purposes, like dining. Can Anyone ID this Very Unusual Table? Good Questions |

I have notoriously bad luck with hot glue guns when it comes to non-permeable objects staying glued to other non-permeable objects. I'd be worried about somebody (child or pet) swallowing the magnet that an unexpectedly clever/dextrous/determined child managed to pry off the cup. Mirrors work really well in small, windowless kitchens. It makes them feel less confining. Would You Hang an Oversized Mirror in Your Kitchen? |

You might want to give La Z Boy some thought. They have many nice clean designs available. I've been very happy with the comfort and durability of my sofa, the customer service has been excellent, and, best of all, the stain guard rocks -- the upholstery stood up to an entire cup of spilled chocolate milk and won. You can't even tell where it happened, even if you know where to look. Are Pottery Barn Sofas Worth the Money? Good Questions |

For iPad: you might like Stack the States, Stack the Countries, Numbers League, Rocket Math, The Monster at the End of this Book, or the Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. National Geographic Kids magazine is also pretty good. Making Holiday Travel a Little More Bearable |

The Economist erred, and nobody bothered fact checking with IKEA before reprinting the story. IKEA is still making book sized BILLY shelving; however, it is adding the option of buying deeper BILLY shelving for those who want to use it for display purposes. Will E-Books Change How Our Homes Look? |

Hanging plants from the ceiling didn't work for me. My kitties climbed up to a high spot, then made the long leap across the room to get at the greenery. They made contact, and spilled the contents of the pots all over the floor. Bitter Apple didn't work; tabasco didn't work; aluminum foil covering the surface where the plants sat didn't work. Mine were totally focussed on getting those plants. Indoor Plants: How Do You Keep Your Cats Away? |

Ha! I've been doing this for 5 years since we moved from a teeny space to a much larger one -- I really don't mind waiting to buy what I *want* instead of hurrying up to buy something just because somebody else thinks the space should be filled or changed. As far as I'm concerned, it is filled -- with play. My son loves having the run around space, and I'm not in a huge rush to change that. No Rush: Reveling in the Emptiness & Promise of a New Home |

Could you mount a dummy head to the wall (like a mannequin head, or a display stand for a wig) and set the mask on it? Even a single bracket that extends out, with some sort of padded disk facing up on the far end of the bracket might work. Then you wouldn't have to put any kind of hardware or adhesive at all on your mask. How To Hang a Carnival Mask? Good Questions | Apartment Therapy Chicago |
