I think someone already mentioned them but I loved the Bloom bouncer and the Baby Bjorn one, very sleek and modern, kind of pricey though. Also, keep in mind what your baby will like. We spent good money on Oeuf crib furniture, which is sturdy and beautiful, and I was all for buying a Bloom bouncer when my mom got involved (and my son was screaming) and in a moment of panic, we spent fifty bucks at target and got the simplest one we could find. My son used it exactly twice. Waste of money, and I was so glad we didn't spring for a $200 one! Only you as a parent know what you really 'need'.

(We also bought an expensive stroller - the Bugaboo- and now my son is almost two and NEVER sits in it, probably could have gone with something cheaper there too...)

Really love your house and your blog! I actually discovered it through a random website called oldhouses.com, that features present and past old historic homes for sale. I was searching for rowhomes, my favorite style. And i was pleasantly surprised to find you blog and this recent feature on apartment therapy!

Ok, and not to sound creepy, but I was on zillow.com tonight looking at prices in that area (we have considered moving back to DC many times) and is the house two doors down from yours for sale? I won't reveal the address, but I'm pretty sure it's really close to you guys! Hope you do more posts about the area on your blog! :)

I agree with many of the commenters that said that you make an effort not to purchase garish plastic beasts of toys. With that said though, I have a sixteen month old son and my parents live down the street, so we get a lot of giant plastic toys! However, we have a big house, so instead of trying to limit them all to one room to horrify someone when they walk into said room, I break them up all over the house similar to the post, and give them their own little places. And yes, I do pick favorites. I have certainly purchased toys because they would look really cool in our living room! What parent doesn't live a little through their kid? :)

I had dark bamboo floors in our last apartment in Seattle. We have a young son, and it's true, if you breathe wrong they scratch and dent. I felt the need to swifter them every single day. If you aren't a clean freak that enjoys that sort of thing, I recommend going with a medium colored hardwood. It's just more durable than bamboo. Good luck!

PS - This is also with the caveat that you alone know what you want and if you can put up with some negative for the positive payoff. For instance, we currently have white laminate floors from Ikea that I was obsessed with. I had to have them. And yes, they get really dusty and dirty. But once you learn to live with a certain level of dust that will just be there, then it's fine. Months later, and I still love them.

We ended up getting the Skip Hop play mat, which was about seventy bucks and was not worth it. It got filthy really fast and he only sat on it for a month or two before hevwas mobile, and it made me feel like my house was a preschool. Now it's sitting in a box in the clothes not even a year later. We ended up getting him a cozy shag rug from ikea which works much better! Land of Nod also has nice rugs for kids. That's my vote!

Just a side note... I have a Bodum French Press that has worked well for years! And I am a daily coffee drinker :) Just to make sure, you should never let the water get all the way to boiling before you pour it in the press. I pull my kettle off right before it starts to whistle, let it cool for a few seconds, then pour. This is all per the instruction manual included with it, and it works well every time.

We got a very expensive and nice VIPP diaper pail as a gift, and I have to say it is awesome. Now, could I live without it? Absolutely. If you plan on taking the trash out daily and taking the really stinky ones straight outside, then you should be okay. But for those first few months when you are sleep deprived and exhausted, it is nice to not have to worry about it. The VIPP's are made of metal, the same kind they use in doctors offices, so they contain the smell extremely well. Either way, I'm sure you will survive. Good luck!

P.S. If you aren't sure about cloth vs. disposable check out gdiapers, that's what we use and they are the best of both worlds! Cloth exterior, disposable, but biodegradable interior.

We bought the west elm modern farm dining table with bench. They sometimes have great sales on top of an already reasonable price. We love it! The bench is easy for kids and the wood is durable and modern. Also, we bought a stokke trip trapp chair for our son, they are incredible and will last for years, and it fits perfectly with the table! Good luck with your search!

Ok, I had this same problem and what I did was to paint bold turquoise and white vertical stripes above the tile and they helped detract from the pale pink. It turned out great! Maybe I should send my pics into apartment therapy? This seems like a common design problem for those of us with old houses.

Gorgeous, wide-open space! I love it! Where is the leather sectional from? I've been looking for something similar that is durable and has that modern look. Thanks!

Great, inspirational house tour! I have seen many people comment on how well Misty worked with the pink/ salmon colored tile in the first bathroom. We have the same tile in our bathroom! I would love to know what that blue paint color is, between that and the shower curtain it looks very updated and cute! Thanks!

Anyone else having problems with the Piccolini website? There seems to be very little left, but then when I found an item and clicked it to add it to my cart, it sent me back to the home page.

I love the giggle.com better basics sheets. They come in stripes that are NOT pastel colors and come more basic solids. You can also buy just the single sheet, not an entire set. If you are looking for something a little funkier, I love love love the John Robshaw crib sheets (we just ordered them for my son.)

i bought the Oeuf crib featured here and I cannot rave about it enough! It is sturdy, beautiful and was fairly easy to put together. We also got the conversion kit and hope this crib will last us awhile (thereby justifying the price a little more). Also, the folks at Oeuf could not be more helpful and on top of things! Great eco-friendly company!

This is a terrible company, do not be swayed by their fancy website. I placed several orders through them that went through a multitude of problems. They kept losing my order, then replacing it, then demanding I send them my credit card information through my email (never a good idea). In the end, I was so upset I canceled one order, which they had already shipped after they confirmed it's cancellation. The other order I finally had to contact the manufacturers of the furniture themselves to get any straight answer on when it will arrive. Their customer service people consistently misspelled words on their emails and were altogether unprofessional. It would take days, sometimes a week to hear anything back. All in all a frustrating experience.

Hi everyone, I emailed the question in. Thanks for your comments so far! The more I have researched I have found the type of leather is actually a perforated leather, commonly found in Italian racing cars. I still don't know where to find a sofa with this type of leather though. Please help! Thanks!
