Tracy - I found that mirror at a thrift store, so I have no idea of its provenance. It was an ugly dark green color, so I painted it.

We know our neighbors next to us and across the street - it definitely helps because they will watch our house if we're gone as well as being able to borrow lawn equipment or the proverbial cup of sugar...

Right now there are a bunch of empty houses on our block, though, and we can't wait until they are sold (most likely have to go through foreclosure first...) and we can have new neighbors to get to know.

I am so in love with this house. If I had a gazillion dollars and lived in a loft in NYC, I would want it to look exactly like this! It's so warm and homey and lived in and cool in a way that is so anti-so much of the stuff featured on AT, which seems so cold and "designer-perfect" to me. THIS is a HOME.

Now, on my local Craigslist, that same couch would be listed incorrectly and then they would want $300 for it! I've seen hideous, butt-ugly, 10 year old couches that people want 80%+ of what they originally purchased it for. Seriously?

I've also actually called out (via Craigslist) people trying to resell IKEA for more than it's worth.

Another librarian here.

I do genre, then alphabetically by author's last name. Some bigger genres I have are broken down into further categories within the genre and also then alphabetically by author.

Fiction and non-fiction separate, natch.

When I was living in Eastern Europe in 2001, I didn't go out and buy myself a big tree, since I spent the holiday with some other expat friends and they had the whole shebang at their house. I did however, buy myself a 1 foot fake tree, one strand of red plastic garland with leaves and bells on it and 4 painted gold instrument ornaments, and that's what I put up. And I've put it up in my home ever since.

We just bought a house and are suffering with the previous owners' DIY projects, which they did to put the house on the market. We're finding that on first glance they might look nice, but if you start looking closer, you find that it was all for show and the projects were either sloppily done or unfinished.

Like,

1) Pulling out the old washer and dryer (to make room for our newer ones) we found the drywall behind them not installed and the outline of the washer in old paint, where they hadn't bothered to finish painting.

2) Baseboard trim in the kitchen unfinished behind appliances

3) Overspray from the white paint job on the black refrigerator

4) The kitchen countertops (a very thin piece of faux-granite not cut well, or joined well together, with an extra 3 inches on one side tacked on like they forgot to measure correctly

5) The kitchen doorway and window trim painted a flat black. How the heck do you clean that up?

6) Bad wiring in many places in the house

7) Bathroom tile that was grouted, but not sealed

8) Patchwork tile around the faucets, instead of precise cuts

9) Nightmare caulking - they caulked everywhere, and then didn't come back and smooth it out.

10) Wonky tile setting, so that the bathroom shower wall looks like it could be a skate park

11) Messy, messy painting EVERYWHERE in the house. This causes my in-a-previous-life interior painter husband to swear a lot.

The funny thing is, the previous owner is actually a house inspector! The cobbler's children have no shoes...

We've taken to using their name as an oath whenever we come across a new offense. And we're tucking away money to eventually restore our gorgeous 1916 semi-Craftsman beauty to it's full glory.
