a bit different from what others are posting but i just wanted to mention the very excellent documentary "babies," which my then 3-year-old daughter just loved when we watched (and a year later, she still loves). i think seeing the other babies, and the very different environments in which they live, was fascinating, and it's beautifully filmed too.

So wonderful, so inspiring! We are similarly saddled with thick clay (and we have digger bees rather than rats nests!), so I am really curious to hear about what you planted with deep, burrowing roots to break up the soil.

I wanted to offer a warning: Once your baby hits the weight limit and you need to drop the mattress all the way down, do be aware it's quite tough on the back with the Sniglar, since it's already so low to the ground. However, you may luck out and have one of those babies you can just plop into the crib wide awake and who lulls herself to sleep! If that's the case, this won't be as much of a concern. Good luck!
