This looks so easy! I love that it's a small quantity, too. How often do you need 2 cups of salad dressing all at once?

I love the topic of this post. I'm not a big sandwich person, so these are the kinds of lunches I always crave!

I've made lots of pasta casseroles, but I never thought to throw in whatever I have in the pantry. Great idea! Will try soon.

My hubby and I argue about the same thing! In the end, I confess that I only un-plug those items that are easy ~ the ones that are easy to reach and that have plugs that don't fit so snugly that it takes a lot of effort to remove.

Hopefully over time even this little bit helps.

On really cold days I love the idea of having a pot of something great simmering in the corner. Plus, even just the smell of something cooking seems to warm me up. A recent slow-cooker favorite is this black bean soup: http://appetiteforconversation.blogspot.com/2010/02/dark-and-mysterious.html.

I love cooking with my toddler. It's just some we DO together - true quality time. And I don't think it's hokey in the least.

Plus, if we don't make efforts to cook with our kids then the art of homecooked meals just might disappear. Cooking is rarely taught at school, so where else will kids learn those basic skills?

I made a great black bean soup in the crockpot. The recipe should be up on my site soon!

My recent favorite was a bean casserole from Moosewood: http://appetiteforconversation.blogspot.com/2009/11/layers.html. Now that you reminded me of it, I just might make it this weekend!

My favorite thing to roast is broccoli, which I do almost weekly. I throw it on a pan with olive oil and salt, then roast at 400 for about 12 minutes. I vary how I season it, but my favorite way is to next sprinkle it with parmesan cheese and roast another 5 or so minutes. The parmesan melts and browns on top of and all around the broccoli. Then I scrape all the yummy cheese from the bottom of the pan as I pour it into a serving dish. The result is both salty and nutty. Yum!

I find that tortillas are almost interchangeable with sandwich bread. You might just use them for a week of lunches. Here's a yummy version I made with hummus: http://appetiteforconversation.blogspot.com/2009/11/lunch.html

I like cashews on top of my favorite curried soup. (http://appetiteforconversation.blogspot.com/2009/11/different-take-on-pumpkin.html) I bet pine nuts would taste good on a lot of soups too.

I want to try making veggie burgers. I've had some exceptional ones at restaurants, so I wonder if I can create something great at home. I think I'll start by trying one of Mark Bittman's recipes for nut burgers or bean burgers at http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9D04E4D6123EF936A25751C0A9609C8B63. Anybody have other veggie burger ideas?

My most interesting (and simple!) dish was campanelle with chestnut cream, but another good one was a sour cream coffee cake for the teachers at my toddler's school. The holidays provided a great excuse to make things I wouldn't normally make!

I live in Northern California and my town manages to have a farmer's market twice a week year-round. So even though the sky frequently looks dreary, we still get bright, colorful, farm-fresh produce. We don't have to battle snow, though!

Love these pictures, by the way.
