I just wrote about this on my blog yesterday. We're doing a family gift of infant kits to MCC. My oldest daughter is using her own money to buy some of the items for the kit. I think giving helps kids to appreciate what they and gratitude that are able to give. Yearroundmama.blogspot.com How Do You Help Your Kids Give Thanks? |

I had an AA one named Cathy. We waited in a super long line at Toys R Us and I could choose between two. All of my friends got handmade dolls from their grandmothers. I was really jealous of the handmade dolls because they got to say someone made them especially for them. The Original Cabbage Patch Kids (and Other Christmas Morning Disappointments) |

I've been reusing water from: the kitchen sink, the dehumidifier, cooking water and anywhere else. Then I prioritize which plants get saved. Food first, then the plants that attract bees. Native plants (which are pretty much all we have) get watered the least but they're usually the hardiest and most adapted. Re-Nest On... Extreme Weather and Everyday Life |

I too have one running year-round in the basement. My house is over 100 years old with a dirt floor, also the walls are pretty much dirt too. The whole house smells if I don't run it. I do reuse the water on our plants. Its filled before the end of the day everyday, whether it rains or not. I probably need about two more down there. Do You Use A Dehumidifier? |

Water Ice! We're dairy free and in Philadelphia, so we just buy water ice occasionally. We have dairy-free ice cream on very special occassions- like a birthday. I've always wanted an ice cream machine but they're too expensive. Make or Buy? Ice Cream |

@ Vhision - I agree. I read the book and hated it for so many reasons. And the actress looks nothing like Oprah except that she's Black. Also, the linked article doesn't say much about the food or the makers of it. Am I missing something? The Help: Real Southern Food on Film |

I grew up in the 80s and I played Mother May I and Red Light Green Light. I think it depends on where you grew up and on your parents. I stayed outside all day and did NOT have video games like PAC Man. We went to the arcade for that- and only if we had change. We had one tv and we only watched primetime tv together as a family (mostly the Cosby Show). We rode our bikes everywhere. And my parents had a rule:" If you're outside, you stay out; if you come back in you're in for the day" I never went in the house unless I had to use the bathroom. And all the parents on our block were like that. So maybe it's reality for some kids like. 10 Ways Kids Entertained Themselves 30 Years Ago Kid Crave |

Well, I hope my friends and family don't feel this way about my shower. I just adopted a little girl and guess what? I'm pregnant with my first baby. I didn't adopt a baby (she was five years old) so I have no baby things AT ALL. I guess I should decline offers of showers as well? Hmmm... I won't. Gift Etiquette and Moral Dilemmas Good Questions |

My parents are the antithesis of green. They were buying bottled water by the case until they got a new fridge with a filter. They don't buy anything local or organic though they live less a mile away from several farmers markets. They drive everywhere even if it's any extremely short distance. They own several SUVs and an RV. They eat at least two types of meat with every meal- it's not a meal without meat. And my dad buys new replacement items like dishes or blankets every month because he wants "a new look". We moved to a six bedroom house with four bathrooms when I was a teenager. We started out in a little house- three bedrooms with four children, two parents and always another relative living with us. I would say that what made me want to be green is seeing how much debt my parents have. Also, remembering how close I was with my siblings when we all shared tiny bedrooms and one bathroom. When we moved and we all got our own rooms we slept in each others rooms anyway. My parents think I'm a weird cheap vegan hippie but I rarely saw my father when I was young because he was always at work so he could pay for all of his stuff. When I have children I want to be able to spend time with them. Does Being Green Come From Your Parents? | Apartment Therapy Re-Nest |
