I go to the local newspaper and get end rolls of newsprint for packing paper.

Quick Tip: The Safest Way to Pack Plates

When we sold our house to a couple of first time homebuyers, we ran into their real estate agent about 7 months later. He told us that they had contacted him to get our phone number because the water heater when out. He did indicate that they finally grasped the concept that it was their responsiblity to replace it - not ours.. And these weren't a couple of young kids, they were in the late 30's, but had always had military housing or rented.

Looking good!! Just an FYI for people... if you live near a university....ask how they deal with their surplus... our university has an outlet that is open to the public 5 days a week with a couple of later evening hours... everything from desks, hall trees, overhead projectors, computer set-ups, laptops... Think what is all in dorms, classrooms, offices, etc..

I didn't read everything previously posted... but is there a vent over the stove? If not, install one with a microwave... that would get it off the counter... I don't think they are terribly expensive... Get rid of the rolling cart and the toaster oven & microwave... put out a pretty single cup brewer..
Nice new pulls would be good... If you have a consignment store, Humanity for Habitat or university surplus... check there... and I'd price a new gas stove or maybe offer some $$ towards new appliances.. We had an under cupboard hanging toaster over that was specifically asked for by a buyer of one of our previous houses..
Maybe a 'chalkboard paint on one of the upper cupboard doors...or a door that I'm not seeing...

Actually, I'd check out my contract now so you know your options.
PS.. I had a friend who dealt with the noise level issues by playing his stereo reallly loud in the morning when he got up to get ready to go to work... with the speakers face down on the floor so his annoying neighbors got the full effect..

Our families lived in the same town, which made it easier.. Christmas & noon dinner with his family until about 4pm then back to mine [where we stayed - more bathrooms/bedrooms] for a later dinner with mine.. One out-of-state sister/hubby alternated Thanksgiving & Christmas and the military family rarely were in-country..
I think that if you have children... then Christmas should be at your home... visiting & celebrating when convenient with other parts of the family - the holiday season lasts long enough. And if there are issues; at some point you have to be the adult and make your decision as to how you want to celebrate your holidays.

I'd hate to have to move and leave the paper -- and trust me, if you're under 30 - that's going to happen for any number of reasons...breakup w/BF; apartment sold out from under you; job change, life changing event; etc. I'd make the paper into a folding screen and then you can take it with you... at $285 a roll.... PS Landlords [BF parents notwithstanding] are someone you don't want to mess with.... references, etc.

When you need paper to pack items with, head to your local newspaper and ask about end rolls of newsprint... No ink to rub off on your hands and you will be amazed at how much paper is left on one roll.

Beds with pillows numbering in the thousands... ok not quite that many, but if they reach half way down the bed.... where the heck do you put them when ready to get into bed? just scatter them all across the floor? big honking basket somewhere out of sight?
