I think you would be best served by these glass preserving jars with rubber washers and hinged lids. My mom has tons of them. funny - i use the exact same type of milk jug (though from a local dairy that sells milk at the farmer's market in Union Square). If you are lucky enough to live near a Commerce Bank, you can drop all those coins in for hard cash for free (no coinstar fees). I agree that customer service at BO is crap. The salesmen at the Madison Ave store were inattentive, unhelpful, and downright snobbish. Even thinking about returning to that store stresses me out. Often, they are just sitting in front of a computer with no interest in assisting you. I haven't gone back in years for this reason, and I don't plan to start now.
