decorno's voice is second to none. I also love that she's critical of design trends.

This caught my eye as I was quickly scrolling through my RSS feed items, so that's something.

I like it but I wouldn't go for the perfect symmetry. I would add some smaller items to add some subtle asymmetry.

"The truth is, if you buy any food in a store, it's impossible to avoid coloring additives. They're in pretty much everything."

Do you mean ARTIFICIAL coloring, or all colors? Because I shop nearly exclusively at Trader Joe's and have no problem avoiding the artificial stuff. It just takes some simple label-reading. It's pretty easy to distinguish between natural colors like tumeric and artificial ones like Yellow No. 5.

Of course, the best way to avoid these problems entirely is to avoid pre-packaged foods. Fruits and vegetables naturally occur in a dazzling array of colors, no potentially dangerous additives needed.

Also, it's relatively easy to take matters into your own hands if you MUST have crazy-colored baked goods. A bit of cherry or cranberry juice easily makes white frosting pink, for example, without affecting taste.

Also, Googling "natural food colors" yields lots of really promising results - like red food coloring derived from beets or currants, for example. Since so many people are getting concerned about artificial colors, companies that produce natural food coloring are flourishing. It's nice to see.

dga555 - What's icking you out? Laying the cover in the hallway? I wish I could do it inside my apartment, but the apartment's way too small. The hallway is indoors and not heavily trafficked, so it's not too gross. Plus I shake everything out really well.

Also, I would hate to deny my neighbors the joy of seeing me jumping around inside my duvet cover.

I pretty much go in the hallway of my apartment complex, lay the cover on the floor, grab two corners of my comforter, and, um, insert myself into the duvet cover along with the comforter. The key is to slither back out without messing up my handiwork.

This method sounds better, on the whole.

Maybe sporks will be the next object to be fetishized. That would be hilarious.

Blog trends I've embraced:
- displaying fabric in embroidery hoops
- grouping artwork in an irregular way
- buying handmade (buying prints and jewelry off Etsy)

Blog trends I've rejected:
- Keep Calm and Carry On posters
- organic bedding
- wall decals
- Birds! Goddamn birds! (no, not everything needs to have cutesy bird motifs on it)
- vintage kitchen canisters (they're cute and all, but they're a dime a dozen and probably have lead paint)
