I've gone back and forth on this. I love the space; raw is good. But I think it cries out for an all-white treatment, and I say that as someone who doesn't generally care for that. But I think there's a case to be made here that the random wall colors just make the space smaller. And, of course, if they got rid of half their stuff, or hid it in storage with drawers, it would help. Imagine how that hanging light fixture would pop against ultra white! in stainless steel container on counter next to stove are wooden spoons, spatulas, tongs and ladles. These are what I use 90 pct of the time while cooking and it's so much easier to grab them rather than rummage through a drawer. Having said that the rest of the the stuff in is a drawer next to the stove...In a perfect world I'd have nothing on the counters but with two adults two kids x three meals a day = no way. i would prefer 4 burners, but you've hit the nail on the head when you say most people would probably want a new kitchen with 2 burners than an outdated/inconvenient one with 4. Apartment Therapy New York | Good Questions: 2 or 4-Burner Cooktop? |

Is the vent over the range gone? I think I would have kept that...looks great otherwise, esp. the arrangement of tools etc. over the sink. Very convenient. Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | How To Paint a Kitchen Kendra's February Jumpstart Project 2009 |

The colors really work together. It's obvious you had a specific palette in mind and stuck with it. I know it's a rental, but if you plan on staying for a while, you might want to splurge on a Murphy bed and open up the living space. My beef with studios is the bedroom-in-the-living area thing. Why not give yourself some more counter space while you're at it? I'd go with standard 24" base cabs with pullout drawer doors (to create a pantry), then a counter, then upper cabs to the ceiling in any configuration that makes sense. If you really want open shelving, could I suggest reserving a section along the right side? Would be a perfect place for cookbooks or wine storage. The counter would be a place to put down your grocery bags when you walk in the door. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Good Questions: Fitted or Unfitted Kitchen? |

Actually it isn't that expensive. I don't think you'd be able to find a cabinet maker to build it for less. My concern -- and i like its looks -- is that the mounting system wouldn't support a full load of books. Elfa, btw, can be pretty expensive for a full wall unit, even on sale, and it looks like crap. i dunno, i like the gray. i'm guessing it's a rental, so why bother with wall prep. i tend to get anal about painting so I won't weigh in on the tape vs. cutting in debate. Suffice to say, a good taper and caulk beats cutting in every day. i second the flor carpet squares. since you have dogs and may be remodeling in a few years, I'd get the cheap, durable ones suitable for high traffic areas. also, rather than ugg slippers, get a few pairs of cheap heavy fleece scuffs at llbean. think they're 20 bucks and you won't mind spilling coffee on them... Well done! That wood floor, as everyone has noted, is a treasure. And I might not have thought about modern decor in a bungalow/cottage, but it works because you have a good eye. Excellent choice of paint colors in the kitchen and bathroom, btw. Apartment Therapy Chicago | House Tour: Tanis Terry's Workman's Cottage |

I enjoy seeing other people's lifestyles, but I have to agree that tours like this aren't what a site called Apartment Therapy is about. Especially since Maxwell has made his bones on the "8-step cure," which this house could probably stand to undergo. We installed Ikea cabs and butcherblockj in our kitchen reno: $3,500 vs. 10k for cheapest Kraftmaid. They look great and feel exceptionally solid. Soft close blum hinges are a nice plus. You may not like Ikea styles, but you won't find comparable quality for even twice the price. All that said, if i ever inherit $50,000 I'm redoing our kitchen with full custom cabinets... Yes, not a masonry bit. That's for bricks. Use a tile bit, and get 3 or 4 so you always have a sharp one. i use a nailset to break the surface, drill at a low speed, and keep a spray bottle for cooling the bit. I checked out this one as well as the CB2 one--i was hoping the quality would be up to snuff. The UO model is incredibly flimsy...don't bother unless you're gonna use it as a sculpture. The CB2 is a little better but not by much. And mskk is correct about hanging by neck. One alternative is wall hooks with nice curved wooden coat hangers. Your guests will appreciate it. Just a guess, but Monica is perhaps not a resident of Manhattan? Anyway, that outdoor space is sweet. Looks to be priced right, maybe they'll take 50k less. If this were 4 blocks west it would be a steal. Apartment Therapy New York | FSBO: Greenwich Village Studio 55 East 9th Street |

At first i thought i might bag on this place, because I don't care for crafty things, but i actually really like it; as others have pointed out, it has a really comfortable, upretentious feel. It's obvious, too, that a lot of thought went into the furnishings and art. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | House Tour: Chris Stephanie's Hip Lower Haight Home San Francisco |
