I think concrete buildings like this are generally difficult to love - though there are some exceptions:

And in this case, I also find the interior decoration a bit spare for my taste.
But painting the balconies and overhangs bright colors - that's genius. Think of how it could brighten up the countless buildings of this type across the world. Sounds like a good idea for the Let's Colour Project.

Biodegradable bags are amazing for home or municipal composting, and probably converted a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't want to deal with messy food scraps.

But my understanding was that you don't actually want things in landfills to decompose --- the decomposition releases gases and makes the ground unstable. If that's the case, biodegradable bags for garbage would be useless or even harmful.

Can anyone verify this? I thought landfills were designed to be as inert as possible.

Whenever things start running slowly in my tub, I use Arm & Hammer Washing Soda (sodium carbonate) - not baking soda - to flush out the drain.

I mix a cup or two in a large bowl of warm water and pour that down the drain. Maybe do it twice and chase with boiling water --- it's always been much more effective than the baking soda/vinegar method for me.

Bar Keeper's Friend.
Make a paste. Let it sit for a minute. Gentle scrubbing.

Works every time for me.

I made bigos last November - a huge dutch oven full of it. I used sauerkraut, mushrooms, onions, 2 kinds of kielbasa and some pork shoulder for good measure.

Even after long cooking I found the individual flavors - the tartness from the kraut, the different spices of the sausage types, even the bay leaf - remained quite pronounced. This made the bigos very intensely flavored, which I loved during my first bowl and found a bit overpowering thereafter.

I dare you to post a recipe for the sour rye barszcz - now that's an Easter soup!
