I love teal! It is my pop color in my living room full of greys and whites.
do you think it is making such a big come back because it was so popular in the 50's and now mid century modern is back in style along with the mad men craze?

Like most apartment dwellers I vote for an outdoor room. I big beautiful patio with a dining table and a grill. I dream of hosting casual outdoor gatherings and serving up sangria =)

Having lived in Chile for a few years I can attest that they make fabulous wines for cheap!
Any Carmenere from the Colchagua Valley tends to be pretty darn good, but my absolute favorite is Casa Silva Reserva.
I think you can get it in the states for $18 or so.

Amybnyc: you should try the Emiliana Organica 5 grape blend

these posts just made me smile so much...I love that there are so many people from Colombia and around the world that connect to this site and share their love for food.

I am currently living in Brazil and it has been a bit of a shock to my cooking style to change lists of ingredients. Baking has all but disappeared from my world.

Thanks for sharing everyone!

I'm off to pick up some vinegar now. "Buttermilk" pancakes here I come. =)

I just made this on Thursday....it was sooo good!

we didnt have any brandy in the house so I just poured in a a can of beer and it helped to do the trick. It was even better the second day! One of the cheapest ways I know to make a hearty meal for a cold day.

I am actually the person who asked this question...

I am living in Brazil currently and we can't seem to find any good quality red wine vinegars here in our small town. They all seem to have too much vinegar and not enough deep wine flavour to them.

I was hoping it would be an easy process...sounds like it will be a lot of fun to see how it develops...
Now to find a mother of vinegar...

And I agree with Kathryn...what a lovely gift for any host who loves to cook!

Is there such a thing as pork stock?

I make my own chicken stock...and vegetable...but I have never made beef stock...nor have I even heard of pork stock. What is that all about?

Which parts of the beef do you use for beef stock?

How would using a cast iron skillet alter cooking times?
If they heat up slowly do you need to get them going for a long time the way you heat up an oven before cooking?

We love the coca tea in our house as a natural way to cure a headache.

In Peru we saw tons of people chewing on a wad of the leaves as they ran up and down the Andes...can't say we enjoyed that...but gave it a go while there.

What would you use as a mixer? Could you make something akin to a mojito with it?

I am a poor chef...which means that I lack a lot of the fancy tools...so recipes without dutch ovens and food processors are more than welcome!

I also have messed up poaching chicken for soups or enchiladas lately...the chicken comes out rubbery and tough...would love to know what I am doing wrong.

on a side note: I have been loving the soup recipes lately! My chicken stock keeps disappearing!

we keep the 24 hours marathon of the Christmas story going in the background every Christmas. Everyone gets called into the living room for our favorite lines and scenes.

But the lead up to the holidays always always includes a Charlie Brown Christmas Story, the old Grinch and White Christmas.

I just moved to Brazil recently and everyone here uses a plastic cone and paper filter. No one seems to think it necessary to buy a machine to take up space on the counter top. And this from the land of coffee!

ok so I am a new cook and now incredibly nervous reading all of this! hehe.

I just bought my first frozen phyllo dough and have no idea what tricks I need to know in order to bake it around some brie and spanakopita.

Any tips from those of you who have learned all of this over the years?
