I'd put some green plants and books.

Blimey! Some grumpy people on here for sure with very opiniated minds.
Reading the post, I think the blue painting was a very good alternative. The finish looks great.

Lovely. I do like seeing the outside too. I wish all the house/flat tour would have a picture from the outside, the front door or something.

We never had a dishwasher. As a child I got to do my turn of the housechores.
Later, my partner and I would take turn, washing/drying, it was a pleasant time spent talking and joking whilst doing the chores.
I don't have kids but if I had I would do the same and see it as a "sharing things together time".
And at least everything would be clean to our standard!

I don't get why you absolutely want something masculine in this flat. I like it that it's gendre neutral.
And even so, what is the problem with chairs being feminine?

Thing is as much as I would say the same, I also think that with two big dogs, a rug can become a messy affair! And more trouble than pleasure.

The room with the beams doesn't look that outdated. I quite like it actually. I bet some of the other rooms could simply just do with a new photo filter, very little changes and they could be in again.
The shaggy room could be seen as "2014 sexy-ironic" style, or something like that :-)

I don't know if you have it on the other side of the world :-) but I use Papier d'Armenie.
It's benzoin. It's a lovely smell and it purifies the air too. Just a small sheet burning down slowly in the living room and it's all good for hours!

I totally agree with scotm.
Besides it doesn't look practical at all. I can only see its purpose for a week end in the city, like an hotel room basically.

When I became a widow 3 years ago at the tender age of 39, I had to find a new place that would be my new home. And despite finding a small flat to rent that could feel like a cocoon, I couldn't invest myself emotionally. I bought furnitures, put some stuff on the walls and that's all. It's only for the past few months that I want it to feel more like a home and less like a place I *have* to live in. Hence me following heartedly week end tips and all, changing a few things to feel good in here!
I have to add that I love reading this wonderful blog/site!

Yay! I'm happy to say I did start on the week-end yesterday. I, at last, put pretty stickers on that bit of my bedroom's wall. The bit where after a water leak and despite changing the wallpaper, I could see the darker patch underneath. Now it's covered with branches and leaves and I like it.
And this morning, i bought some wildflowers at the farmer's market. A big bunh for almost nothing that makes two beautiful bouquets for my small living room.
