If you have a glass top stove or cookstop make sure that the bottom of your pans are flat. If they aren't flat it reduces the heat transfer from the cooktop to the pan, which causes the food to take longer to cook.

If you are thinking about getting individual room air conditioners don't get a portable unless you don't have a choice. They are much less efficient than a comparable window air conditioner. You still have to vent it through the window, which requires installation, so you can't easily move it from room to room during the day.

You don't have to stay at the hotel to enjoy the art. The gallery and restautant are open to the public and if you stop by you have to check out the bathroom.

I have original subway tiles in the bathroom of my 1920's era house. I love the style, but when it was done the tiles only went up to about 4 ft. This would be fine except, in the shower area a previous owner added square tile above the subway tile and it looks horrible. Unfortunately I think the only way to fix it is remove all the tile and start over.

I use a one of those over the door shoe organizers on the inside of my linen closet (the only storage in my bathroom) and it works great. Its perfect for sorting all the random stuff that you have in the bathroom.

I have also had bad experience with getting anything to stick to magnetic paint, even with 5 coats of paint.

I know how to do this, but I never understood it because it takes longer for me to get the shirt layed out flat than it takes me to normally fold it.

You don't want to tuck your fridge in an insulated enclosure because air needs to the coils on the back. If they don't get sufficient air flow they will get hotter and the efficiency will go down.

Significant heat loss is through the gasket that seals the door to the body of the fridge when it is closed, so make sure that fits tightly and there aren't any gaps.

When you compare which is more efficient a stove or a microwave you have to consider what kind. A gas stove is the least efficient, an electric stove is somewhat efficient and induction cooktops are very efficient.

The article doesn't actually say that a stove is greener, just that if you have to chose one it is more practical because a stove can do more.

If you have a microwave the easiest way to make it greener is to unplug it when you aren't using it.

You could just get a solar hot water heater, and get the benefit for all of your hot water. Or even easier, wash your clothes in cold water.

I can see how that would make your clothes smell good, but how would it help prevent static and make your clothes feel softer?

I am definitely a seeker, while I don't panic if I can't see stuff any available surface invariably gets covered in stuff.

I like the idea of cardboard furniture, but you waste a lot of space when you ship an empty box. It would be cooler if they are actually used to ship stuff.

I read the article and it mentioned a sunken tub, below the shower. I would be interested in seeing that, it seems more practical than a sunken dinning table.

I don't have a knife that I love, but I definitely seem to use a basic serrated bread knife the most.

While I haven't personally used energy film, it seems to work on the basic principle of blocking UV light rays. While this might keep your house cooler in summer, by preventing excess energy from getting in, it won't keep your house warmer in winter. It might actually make your house a little colder because UV light that could be warming your house wouldn't be getting in.

The basic principle behind heat shrink window wrap is two-fold. It helps prevent drafts which can be a major source of heat loss and it creates a second layer of insulation for your window, thus increasing its R-value.

I was very confused by the first picture until I read the description and realized it was stairs in the picture.

I really love the use of glass to add color and interest I think these stairs are great.

I used a window film I got at Lowes and had a lot of difficult getting out all the bubbles. This was the kind that you applied by misting water on the window. Also when I went to remove it, it was really difficult to get off and involved a lot of scrapping.

Going back to craft roots you could used podge as a way to protect it.

I used old National Geographic maps to cover a cheap dresser using the same method and it was so much better than original fake wood.
