My proudest sewing moment was last Christmas. I got everything I needed to make a pair of pajama pants for my teenage daughter, including the last yardage of sock monkey flannel fabric from the fabric store. December 23rd I banished my daughter from the living room, laid everything out, cut the pieces, went to start on it on my Grandmother's old Singer Featherweight, and realized/remembered it doesn't do buttonholes. So, with the project tucked away from prying eyes, we trekked over to my parent's house. Banished my daughter to the kitchen this time, dug mom's machine out of the closet, set it up, realized the buttonhole setting wasn't working. Dug out mom's old Vogue sewing book. Looked up how to do a buttonhole by hand. Made two buttonholes by hand. Went to start sewing the two legs together, and realized I'd cut out two left legs. With no extra yardage left. Laughed hysterically, but did not cry, and went downstairs to tell my daughter it would just have to wait until next (this) year. But they will be under the tree this year, before December 23rd.

Don't feel lonely wig...I fall into the too busy curing to post a darn thing category! It's going well, but it is a LOT of work in this place. Who knew a one bedroom could hold so much stuff that I don't actually need? Keep working on the shredding...you'll get there.

I craft for my daughter. I adopted her when she was 15. you can guess the reasons why a child would need to be adopted by her teacher. I had always made things, for others, for myself, but when I gave her the first hat I had knit for her we both landed up crying. It made her realize that I really was in it for the long haul, that I wasn't going anywhere, that I really was her mom. I've made her many hats & other gifts since then, and every time they remind us both of what's been and what's to come.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who's house is in a shambles. My living room looks like a tornado came through (and my daughter's off at college so I can't blame her!). But looking at my kitchen makes me keep going. I'll post after-pics as soon as said daughter returns my camera. I'm having trouble finding one thing though...small-ish compact flourescent bulbs that are the equivalent of 60w incandesant bulbs. The one's I've found so far don't fit inside the light fixture in the kitchen. Does any one have any ideas? I've tried IKEA bulbs and Energy Star bulbs...

caliloud - I have some of those shelving racks too...a few bought at a hardware store & a cool adjustable one from Bed, Bath & Beyond. This is the third apartment they've lived in, they still look & work really well.

Thanks to those who commented on my pictures. I, too, love my kitchen cabinets. It's one of the reasons I took the apartment. Bookshelves are in the budget, and I have some thoughts on how to deal with that top heavy shelf thing in the living room...I'm going to tackle it next week since I have essentially no entryway to declutter. I really like the idea of painting the frame of the mirror on the medicine cabinet. I'll have to ruminate on what color.

I finally managed to post my pictures *and* find the Send to Group button (Thanks, Lisa). I resisted the urge to "clean up for company" before I took them. My deep treatment progress was to finish all of week one, force myself to not try to do the one room workout at the same time, and start on the kitchen. My outbox is getting very full already. I love it!

I'm still waiting for my book to arrive, but in the meantime I've been clearing out lots of paper and old magazines. Not that it will be all that obvious once I post pictures, but that's the whole point, right?

Congratulations, heps, I'm impressed you're taking this on with a little one on the way!
